Recommendations? Easy, just have all your ducks in a row. My most recent DOT was last week in Virginia. I had a DOT during the blitz last year in Texas. In both cases, inspection was done, sticker was put on the windshield and I went about my business. No difference between the two. The only difference is that during those three days there will be more inspections. Everybody gets to worked up about it. There are people that actually claim they won't work during the blitz.

If you keep your truck in shape so it can pass a DOT inspection, like you should, you won't have a problem. Simple as that.

For us it makes sense to get a Level one inspection to turn into FedEx Custom Critical as one of our yearly inspections. A free inspection is always nice!

They are no big deal and if you do have a problem I would rather find it out before the accident happens.

Off Topic:

I just viewed the You Tube link you posted regarding Rhodesian Ridgeback, first two years. it brought back great memories. You see I have also had the pleasure of raising my own Rhodesian. Being sight hunters they/she are fun to watch while on the hunt.

Sadly, she is no longer with us. She gave us many years (13.5) of love and laughs! Thanks for sharing this as it reminded me so much of the years spent watching April grow from a pup to an adult Rhody.

Westbound I-76 scale near Lodi. There is usually an OSP officer there that does not know how to measure brakes.Got me 3 years in a row. Each time my road service found no problem.Rest of the time, this guy usually works Akron.

I had a "free" inspection done in Texas 2 months ago. The highway patrol put the sticker on my windshield ABOVE the wipers. Naturally it rained that night and the wipers pulled half the sticker off. I pulled it off the rest of the way and taped it with clear packing tape below the wiper blade. Now I have a bunch of "VOID" words on the windshield where I pulled it off. Just waiting for them to ask me what happened.

Other than that, the guys was pretty nice and professional.

Last year I had one done at a scale in Iowa. The guy told me he had a yearly inspection quota and he liked doing straight trucks because they were easier to do that T/T's and he like doing FedEx trucks because they usually passed.

We have heard the same thing on FedEx Custom Critical trucks and had to chuckle over that one. I was once told to pull around back and the DOT officer came over and told me to go on as there was no sense checking us as they were looking for trucks with problems and so far he had never found any problems with a FedEx Custom Critical truck. I do not think he is still saying that as we have seen some FCC trucks out here that are scary.

We have noticed many of the scales seem to have more officers in them and look as if they might be "practicing" for next week.

If you have a crank windshield , you can replace it ahead of time .
most cases , the insurance cover that one for free . it will not raise the premiums , and the PPG van will come to the truck .
just keep in mind that you will be OOS for a few hours till you can move the truck/Van again.
call your insurance agent , and make sure your windshield is covered .

ok this one might scare some but adjust your brakes. half a round out should be just fine. and make sure your trailer has the registration. i have gotten 3 panther trailers in the past 2 months without registration. and 5 this year. buy some sandwich bags with ziplock and put the reg in them so they don't get wet. check your permits, and make sure they are up to date.

Travels took me to New Orleans and to Tampa. Other drivers were saying Al and Fl were really hitting hard. Didn’t see anything out of the ordinary this week, most were 'rolling' them across, and usual sites were closed.

My last inspection was 2 wks ago, just north of Laredo, and if the inspector had wanted to see any more, she'd have had to be a GYN. She looked under the hood, under the truck, inside the box of triangles, and inside the sleeper, too. [No one has ever asked to check the sleeper, and I know it's not part of the inspection, but I also know that a refusal could make me regret it, so I said ok]
I got my sticker, plus a reward from Bolt, which is very nice of them. :)

I missed my "perfect inspection" bonus because of burned out back-up lights. Both bulbs. Doohhhh...
