RIP, little buddy

2 days ago, I woke to find my dog Kenzy had passed away. It was unexpected, [she was only 5!], but mercifully very quick - the vet said most likely a stroke, resulting in instant death. I cannot replace her, and won't even try.
What I want to do, [and the reason I'm posting this], is volunteer for a group called Operation Roger - emergency pet transport for truckers. It's something I wouldn't do before, not knowing what might happen if I brought another into the truck, [the dogs don't know it's just temporary], and I didn't want to take any risks of dog trouble while driving - it could have been ugly.
If any other drivers would like to volunteer, or just find out more about them, the website is Operation Roger [sorry, I can't do links].
A lot of pets [and Kenzy and I] would appreciate the help - because we all need a lift now & then. :(

I'm sorry for your loss, Cheri. I'm actually looking for a dog to take with me on the road; and your story made me take pause.

I don't know, Pjjjjjj, I think it would have been even worse to see her suffer - but either way, it is something I don't want to do again.
THawk: the pleasure of a dog [or cat] in the truck is priceless - I'm happy to have had her for the little time I did, and you would be too, I think.

Cheri,

Sorry for your loss. I know how close some people are to their pets. :(

sorry for your loss Cheri. May your pain be eased with nothing but good memories of your dog.

I lost my dog Bo late 2010. It hurts loosing a pet. Especially one you see grow up and around all the time.

Cheri,

My wife and I are so very sorry for your loss. We have been where you are, and unfortunately will be there again soon.

As well read as you are, you probably have seen this poem, but I will post it here for you and any other members that have lost a faithful companion. It helped us cope and I hope it will help others as well. Take care, and if there is anything I can do don't hesitate to ask.

Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth
It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills, valleys with lush green grass
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this special place
There is always food and water and warm spring weather
The old and frail are young again
Those who are maimed are made whole again
They play all day with each other
There is only one thing missing
They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth
So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up !
The nose twitches !
The ears are up !
The eyes are staring !
And this one suddenly runs from the group !
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him or her into your arms and embrace
your face is kissed again and again,
and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

My condolences. A PM your way...maybe my 16 years as an LVT can shed some comforting light on your situation. So sorry once again, I know how badly it hurts.

Diane and I send our condolences on the loss of your dog Kenzy. It is amazing how a loving pet can continue to bring the good out in you even after one passes. Your new involvement in Operation Roger speaks well of you and Kenzy.

Sorry to hear about your loss Cheri

I don't know if I could ever go without having dogs in my life, even knowing how crushing it can be when we loose them.
