Rhodes Rambler Sleeper

Wondering if anyone out here has a Rhodes Rambler Sleeper with the AC blower mounted under the sleeper. I am having a very bad intermittent problem with the blower. It runs whenever it feels like it.I have changed the on/off switch, changed the fuse, checked continuity of the 12 volt line to the switch and am getting 12 volts there.,ran 12 volts directly into the output connections of the switch with no help. Today I redid every ground connection that I could find. Jim Coles from Rhodes Rambler is a nice guy but couldn!t help me at all.
Sometimes it comes on and will run for hours then if you shut it off,it will not restart. Tommorrow I am going to run a new ground wire from the batteries frame connection to the blower ground and if that doesn!t work I will try to run 12 volts directly in to the blower.Problem with this cheap sleeper is that wires change color in mid stream ,disappear into other harness etc. It!s very hard to trace everything back. The sleeper is also 8 years old and that doesn!t help.

Rich,i dont have a rhodes rambler,i have a ICT. but i experienced the same type of problem that you are having. like yours, my a/c motor is mounted under the bunk.mine also was running intermittantly or not at all.after removing the motor,it appeared to me that the motor had sucked alot of dust and dirt into itself.this in turn had caused the motor to get hot and stop working.i called ICT and had them ship me another motor($68.00)and now its working fine. hope this helps you. Thanks for that response.I think thats the problem as today I redid all of the connections, cleaned every ground connection I could find. When I first turn the unit on after sitting all night it works, turn it off and on a couple of times and it won!t come on. I have 12 volts going into the unit, so my switch and grounds must be ok. I will talk to Rhodes again on Monday.

I think the blower motor itself is bad. If power is up to it and it is grounded, it should run if it is OK, but won't if its brushes are too worn, or the armature contactor is dirty or the armature has some open windings on it that are stopping on the brushes. Heavy dirt buildup in the blower housing itself can also keep the motor from wanting to spin. 8 years is a good lifespan for a well used blower motor!
