she is a role model for many, and an inspirations for a lot of family's.
i would also like to share the very little that i know on this story.
about a year before the Arizona shooting, an Ambulance driver that responded to a road accident in Israel 'lost' his patient do to a massive blood block on the injured leg.
what they used to do, is use a rubber strip to block the blood flow from a leg or a hand & prevent a massive blood loose.
the problem was that without blood, the limb do not get the oxygen it needs, and poisons is not carried back.
if it takes too long to get into the OP then the surgeon must cut off the limb in order to save the life.
the frustrated ambulance driver decided to solve this problem, and came up with a device that works like the device nurses use to check your heart rate.
you simply deploy it on the limb with a valcro, and forget about it.
the device then monitor the blood flow into the severally injured limb, and provide a little blood flow 'just to keep it alive'.
when the ambulance gets to the ER. there's no blocks in the veins, and the surgeon have much easier chance of saving the life, and avoid loosing a limb.
this device have been quick to be deploy in all ambulances in Israel.
but it was a hard sale in the US.
that device was used to save the life of senator Gabrielle Giffords.
the very published covers of the event cought the eye's of many in the emergency resound community.
from that point on every EMT wanted that device in his ambulance.
this device is now widely distributed in many ambulances in the US and around the world.
if it was not for the events of that day, it is everyone's guess if EMT's would have even know about this life saving device.
in her own way senator Gabrielle Giffords already help save many lives.
