Remembering Franklin Sousley and his comrades on Memorial Day

Franklin Sousley of Hilltop, Kentucky was one of six US military men who raised the American flag at the battle of Iwo Jima. Only 19 years old at the time, Sousley was killed by a Japanese sniper days later. First buried there on the Japanese island, Sousley's body was later removed to the Elizaville Cemetery in Fleming County, Kentucky.
