Yesterday, walking thru a mall X-mas shopping for my duaghter. The stores all cater the same stuff for teenagers. I felt like a Large Truck in the parking lot of a High School Prom, out of place you get the picture.

My Bride exits the store with a bag, along we begin to walk thru the isles of the Mall when up walks this little girl. She stands directly at my toes and looks up and asks "can you find my Mom and Dad" my first thought was WHY ME, than I responded "sure will".

Ask all the usual questions, where you inside a childrens store or an adult store? How old are you, and this question I love asking children under the age of 11 are you married? Try this one next time you meet a child it always brings out a smile on both of you.

She was Three and her name was Brianna. So we stood there for about 3 minutes in conversation, a beautiful little girl with long curly blonde hair and a tiny bear tatoo on her cheek. So I left my wife and her there now with a somewhat description of her parents all I knew was I was looking for a mother with the look of terror and I knew I found my mom and of course probably blonde hair and attractive since Brianna was a doll.

After looking for Security or her parents I could find niether I turned back and still no luck. Than after about 5 more minutes I locate a Security Guard and of course everyones looking for her. I was not gona let this little one out of our clutches until the actual parents showed up, badge or no badge I think she somehow felt safe with us. Mom shows up of course much more emotional than I though, so all was good.

So this is my ATTA slap on the back. But what I still cannot figure out is WHY ME? Why would a three year old come up to me with the trust she laid on my shoulders? Sure she asked the right person or right kinda person but I just kept thinking about this all night last night.

I just thought this story was a nice change of pace as to what has been posted on here lately. I am not looking for any congrats, as it was no big deal except for those parents. And the parents, well she said nothing but I could tell she did not have to. The Dad well he needs to lighten up a bit he was P.O. and needed to be a bit more understanding with the panic mom was feeling as he was P.O. as mom was paniced.

I think this belongs in the "tooting your horn" thread.:+ ;)

But seriously, I was almost in one of these situations. A little girl was standing by herself in the mall crying her eyes out and obviously scared. And people were just walking by. Before I got to her a security guard showed up. How could anyone just walk by a little girl, or boy, in that situation?

Coulda been your clean-shaven, balding head ;)

Men, including me, tend to respond to crises with anger, rather than fear. The feeling of helplessness manifests itself as a loss of the "macho hero" personna. Which just about pisses any man off when his masculinity is questioned (in this case, by himself). Not a PhD, just a guess. LOL

Thanks, Broom, for reminding us that sometimes you get an opportunity to make a difference that counts. :)
PS for maximum giggles, follow the 'are you married?" query with "Well, do you at least have a job?" :)
