Has anyone ever had a reefer tank put on thier truck or put one on themselves? Was wondering what it would cost. With fuel getting up in price a bit it might be worth it now. Layoutshooter

I picked up a 30 gallon tank a while ago that I want to put on the truck, but it is off of a trailer and the filler is not where I want it. I am looking around for a 40 gallon tank that was taken off for a conversion, a lot of those around. This way I can put a gauge on it and also have the filler where I can fill it easily.

It looks straight forward to mount to the frame. The connections are easy, I only have one going to the fuel pump (no return line).

How much did it cost you? I want a 40 gal. I want to run my reefer and APU off of it. Layoutshooter

The 30 gallon, all aluminum was $100 and I had to take it off the trailer - pretty easy.

I seen 40 gallon tanks for about $150 all steel but don't remember where. I think it only makes sense to use a separate tank.

My truck did not come that way but I am leaning that way quickly. I am not very good with that kind of work. I am sure I could get one off the other truck/trailer. I doubt I would be able to do the connections. I would have to remove lines that are feeded the reefer/APU out of my main tanks. I would have to plug those holes etc somehow. Then do all the other connections. I can see myself blowing up my truck or something. I will look into this more, Thanks Greg. Layoutshooter

If you can figure out what a wrench is, then you can do this work. It is not brain surgery. The biggest problem would be mounting it to the frame, I am inclined to hire that work out because I have no help to speak of when it comes to the truck or the house. The connection part is not a problem, I don't know if the APU has a return line, the feed lines nothing to work with. The thing to remember is to use the right connectors and fittings (DOT approved) and make sure things are tight - that's all. You are working with hard plastic (that's what I have) and you don't have any hard or sharp bends to worry about.

Thanks Greg,

I will be looking into this more next time I get home. Hate to go home right now, freight is hot for us right now. Layoutshooter
