Redoing your own sleeper

I just want to tell everyone about the Sleeper and Cab we Gutted out and Tricked. The truck is a 1997 FL 70 Freightliner and the sleeper was made by Bentz. The trucks sleeper was just in need of a make over from all the wear from year's of doing over 1500 plus loads with FedEx Custom Critical.

I really like the truck and I like running it better than our 2005 M2. So we gutted it out and did all the work ourselfs. We didn't know what we was going to put back in the sleeper since this was our 1st time doing it. After our boys seen Tricked my truck On CMT they went at it. The sleeper has new TV/DVD player, New Microwave,Frig that holds more than the one that was in the truck,AM/FM CD player in the Sleeper with a kicker, Cool lights in the sleeper.

The Cab's head liner was taken out and Recovered with new lights put above each seat so the driver's could do there log books without getting blinded by the dome light. New speaker's And talk back speaker was put was also replaced. The sleeper walls and floor was done in a light maple that was stained with cherry.

The total Cost was under $3000.00 Alot cheaper than having a new sleeper built. Dreamer is going to post some picture's so you can see what it looks like. I hope you like it. Oh And my boy's said they would Redo anyone sleeper if they wanted to save some money.

Very nice work Dave! It does remind me of the interior for Icebreaker. That wood looks cool, and I really like the flooring. That bigger fridge should be good for your driver.

Thanks, it was some hard work. Thanks again to Davekc and Dreamer for getting the picture's posted. I really didn't have any luck on getting them posted, I'm not that great on a computer.

Just wanted to know if downtime was a factor for you?
I once chose to have a sleeper transferred from my previous truck to a new one.

Cost of transfer was 2K but 20 days of downtime added another 5K.
I did this due to a six mo wait for a sleeper I would want.

Don`t know that I would ever do that again.

20 days sounds pretty long on a 10 to 12 hour job. ICT gave me quote last year and they said two days or possibly three if they had a problem. Price was 1500 or 1800. I can remember. That was also moving a generator as well.

When I talked to ICT about converting my sleeper they told me about 5 days to gut it and then install everything else.

Leo, They said 5 Days just to gut it. I had mine gutted in One Day. And I was the only one doing that part.

No, 5 days to gut it and install everything else. They really thought it would be done in 3 days but wanted padding just in case.

Love the pictures of your like-new again sleeper. Very impressive. Would also like to say, we were very happy to get to meet you at the Expo. We are already looking forward to next year. Thanks for sharing so much information.

The three days I was refering to was to transfer a sleeper from one truck to the other. If you redo the inside, I quess the time would vary widely depending on what you are doing.
In our case, there wasn't any inside work other than install a new boot for the opening.

The boys have produced a sleeper to be proud of, and you've produced boys to be proud of - good job!
