REAL NEWS

Lindsay Lohan, 24, and Paris Hilton got their names and faces all over the news because they went to jail for a few short weeks or days for acting out, negative behavior, resisting arrest, cocaine possession, being drunk and disorderly, not to mention their insolent attitude.

What do you know about these men?

Justin Allen, 23
Brett Linley, 29
Matthew Weikert, 29
Justus Bartett, 27
Dave Santos , 21
Chase Stanley, 21
Jesse Reed, 26
Matthew Johnson, 21
Zachary Fisher, 24
Brandon King, 23
Christopher Goeke, 23
Sheldon Tate, 27

Do you recognize any of their names? No? None of them starred in a movie or made a record album, hit a homerun or scored a 3 point conversion or did a celebration in the end zone after scoring a touchdown. None of them brags about "showcasing their talents for their fans" while being paid millions and millions of dollars.

Did that help? No? Well then I should tell you that they are all U. S.Marines who gave their lives for YOU this week. They died for honor and country. They are all heroes of the highest magnitude. How much did you read about them ?

Honor THEM by forwarding this. I just did!

I seriously doubt that many folks giveadam abot the celebrities cited, but who asked us? The media will claim [as always] they're "giving the people what they want" but that's absolute BS - they're giving us what won't upset the advertisers they depend upon [which covers a lot of ground, with megacorporations owning dozens of subsidiaries], is what they're giving us. They also need to tread carefully in regard to politicians, as laws can be passed [and have, as in Ca's ruling prohibiting sidewalk vending machines] that negatively affect the profits, if politicians get upset.
Any suggestion that we don't care about what they choose to share with us is simply ignored. The death of soldiers is a particularly sensitive subject that the government doesn't care to have folks reminded of - it might upset us. It might make us pretty mad, too, and at whom?
Now that nearly all media [newspapers, television, magazines] is corporate, the only ones left to tell us the [unwelcome] truth are the small local papers. And there are fewer of them every week, thanks [in large part] WalMart's having driven the small businesses out of business, leaving no advertisers to support the little guys.
There's so much they aren't telling us, and this is but one small bit of it - an important bit, because the death of potential is a serious loss to society, above and beyond the loss to the loved ones, but just the tip of the iceberg.
It makes me furious - but what can we do about it?
