Re: Romney Debate

Mitt Romney, who was born in Michigan and chose the birthplace of the American automobile to announce his presidential bid at the Henry Ford Museum four years ago, has denounced the rescue of the industry. He repeated his position at a Republican presidential debate this week, declaring: “Should they have used the funds to bail out General Motors and Chrysler? No, that was the wrong source for that funding.”

So what does that mean? Is there different funding he would have used?....So whats his exact position here?....

Yep he was born in Michigan, his father George Romney was governor of the state and head of AMC for a while, among being a lobbyist.

His son, Mitt is the same type of cut from the same cloth is sometimes critical of the auto industry that he grew up around. He knows the game, he knows what's going and he, like many others saw other ways out of the problems GM and Frhysler have.

BUT with that said, I am wondering how much of a liberal he is, he isn't a conservative by any means and sure the hell isn't a libertarian. He didn't become governor of a very liberal state where one of the most destructive senators that our country has seen came from just by showing any signs of conservative/libertarian ideologies.

May I ask if the above statement is yours or is it from a news article, blog, website? If they are not your words, could you supply a link to where you got them so we could read it?

Well..... I did read it and that is why I asked the question.

It is a fair question to ask. You are looking for opinions, answers, thoughts, etc, etc on a snippet of information that you thought was important enough to post. I was curious if those were your own words you posted or if you got it from an article that obviously struck a chord with you.

BTW.......I clicked on your link and it took me to an article about the unions not happy with compensation to top executives. Not quite sure what that has to do with Romney's remarks on the auto bailouts and how he feels about it.

I'm sure others will think that I am being "confrontational". I assure you I am not, just simply asking pertinent questions for pieces to the puzzle.

Then why post the following?:

So what does that mean? Is there different funding he would have used?....So whats his exact position here?....

I mean, obvioulsly you were thinking or wondering how Mr. Romney actually feels about the auto bailouts and asking the soapbox what they thought. See, its hard to actually come up with an opinion or thought on Mr. Romney's position without any context.

corrected link.. continue on McDuff..

Why must you resort to name calling?

So back to my original question in case some missed it....

WHAT is this other source he refers to?

He might be trying to say that they needed to file bankruptcy and reorganize. Well at least I think he is trying to imply it without saying it, he wants to leave it open so he can twist it based on the group he is speaking to.

It appeared to me to be the usual double talk..open ended. The original "source" was taxpayer money...

That would be the only stance that conservatives would accept. The "other source" question is a good one but maybe more important would be that he supported any money at all flowing into these companies.

I think it is simply a statement that they misused taxpayer money as they do any given day, to bailout both companies when other "Sources" could have been used...like "private funding, commerical loads guaranteed by the gov instead of using taxpayer money up ft and even foreign investment that Chrysler seen to a limited extent...

And yes they should have let them both fold and file BK...as painful as it would have been even for those beyond the 2 companies, its what should have happened....they would have been bought up, broken up and come back all for the better....

I don't like the guy at all, won't vote FOR him, but if he gets the nomimation, I'll vote AGAINST barry...he is a rino...but in this instance, he is a "businessman"...that is simply stating there were other ways to deal with gm and chrysler..and using tax dollars wasn't it...and ill add it wasn't for sooo many reasons....

Romney is NO conservative, even more liberal than Reagan or Bush was. Not quite as bad as Obama but headed in that direction. It does appear that, yet again, I will NOT be voting FOR anyone, just voting AGAINST Obama.
