This week I was 50 - 50 one with a number one without. The one without was not nlm but needed an airbill number which dispatch had.

Didn't get one on today's pickup [or which airline was shipping it to the facility].
What's worse than wasting time, for me, is looking unprofessional/unprepared when at the customer. Like OVM said: we're better than that.
I blame it on the 'computer' - they're capable of all kinds of troublemaking, lol. ;)

To err is human
To really foul it up takes a computer

What MIGHT happen in cases like that...is it might be a 3pl or even 4pl load...the next person up the chain doesn't even know the AWB# yet....the chain of events are say, ahead of the flight...I've had some loads where the frieght was not even tendered to the airline yet. driver had picked it up and on way to airport....so hence no AWB#....

so the thing to do is make the call BEFORE you go in to the customer IF you know it is air freight and have no AWB # yet...

That does happen quite often. I will check into it and see what I can find out. At least we are getting more information to you guys on a more regular basis. Improvement comes in steps!

I have done tons of air freight....There are times the chain is set before the part even leaves the factory...and the routing is done...been left at many an airport for hours because the package got bumped off the flight because people come first....and that makes me shake my head...freight is the cash cow, you don't have to feed it, wipe its snotty nose or pander to it....it just is.....

I'm blaming this one on the facility that held the freight for pickup. On the air cargo 'cookie sheet', with cargo net still in place - one 8x10 'pallet' @ 7500 lbs. [Aren't they supposed to break it down?]
Was a huge PITA for the consignee to unload, but they did a pretty good job on their end. Make that a great job, lol.
It will go smoother when I'm more familiar with which places are likely to be airfrieght, aside from the obvious - then I'll know to ask for the AWB before I arrive, if it hasn't come through.
The screwup [cookie sheet] cost me a second load, sigh, but it's all part of the "learning curve" - the one that always goes through the wallet, lol.
Still, I made it home when I needed to, and for that, I appreciate what dispatch does: thanks, guys. :)
