Qualcomm General Info

Hi gang,

I am just curious about the general workings of a QC. The typical pattern it appears is that when the ignition is on the QC is on of course, and it stays on for about a half hour after the ignition is turned off.

What does make me wonder is when I am sitting with the ignition off and the QC keyboard will turn on for about 3 minutes and turn off. Obviously the main unit is still working regardless of the ignition being on but what is causing the keyboard to activate? I always wonder if I am about to get a load, or if dispatch is doing something etc?

Any feedback will keep curiousity from killing this cat.

When the ignition is off, and the antenna has a fix on the satelite, the unit enters quiet mode to reduce battery drain.

Messages can still be sent and recieved.

The unit will shut down completley at a pre-determied time. This stay on time is set by your carrier,or the can show you how to change it. Pre-set times range from 30 min to 3 hours. With strong multiple batteries your stay on time can be longer.

Gotcha, but why does the keyboard power up at indiscriminate times for a few minutes and then shutdown when the ignition is off?

Curious?? What company are u with? With FDXCC you can have the shut off time programmed from 1 minute to 24 hours or more. I use a 8 hr shut down time after the ignition is turned off and the batteries always seem OK. Thre is also a method with the FDX unit to shut it off yourself.
Go to option mode.
Scroll down to your unit address.
Enter this number.
Scroll down 5 times.
It will say'Do you want to restart the unit" Y/N
Type Y, Q/Comm shuts down until you repower it up..

This saves battery life and keeps you from having to read annoying messages from safety about using your mirrors when you back up etc.

It should not do this. You need to get the unit checked out at a qualcom center.

Should the QC be wired to the ignition or the aux batteries? Does it matter? Do I have a choice when the guys at QC central are installing it?

Thanks. :+ :+

On my last installation I requested the power lead be connected to my aux batteries. They refused. Location was PJ`s Canton Oh.

The Ignition lead must be to a switched 12v source. The Ign lead tells the unit when to power down to "Quiet Mode" and start the timer for shutdown.

I hope I made it clear, there are 2-12volt leads into the QC,one is switched, the other is not.
