Protecting your Credit

LBD just mentioned something about pulling credit scores. Than again in an earlier post I was listenting to NPR. People it is scary how good some are at stealing your identity.

Now if anyone knows about this post more than I do, the Government has a web site on WWW.Gov your credit or in regards to identity theft. I will personally be going there to do more reserach, but wanted to comment here for you all to see.

I haved two relatives, one is a Police Detective who investigages this stuff and his stories are fasinating, and the other had her identity stolen a few years back. She is the personal Secretary to one of the best Lawyers is Atlanta and this is the only way she was able to not be torn apart, if what happened to her happened to one of us we would be years straightening out our credit.

Heres the story short, purse stolen, replace all cards, and ID. She than begins getting calls 6 months after the theft from credit agencies. Arrest warrant issued for her, the thief had a drivers liscence made and had opened up tens and tens of credit cards in the victims name. It gets better, the theif had payed on time all that they had charged just small amounts, thus creating a new address to disgize themself as the new creditor.

Now began purchasing major items cars, boats, mtcy and now stopped paying and was able to according to the police have these dissipear were either sold as parts etc... Now the insurance companies are after the victim for insurance fraude. It keeps getting better but you get the picture. Because she worked for this lawyer he knew how to help her handle her problem but it took a couple of years. Never cought the culpert.

So please protect yourself.

Beaware of these Cell phone cameras.
Cover your cards at ATMS and when entering credit cards at the fuel islands.
Never leave your credit card as security, DL only. They can scan your card if they have it for that much time.
Photo copy your DL SS card and all your credit cards front and back and keep in a safe place as if you ever have lost everything you have a breeze and no lost time in contacting your creditors.
Do not give SS to anyone for a return item.

The rest of the info is on the government site.

Thiefs are very smart just disshonest scum of the earth in the same group as Osoma.

Makes ya wonder just how valuable a good credit rating is. Sure, you can sign on the dotted line and own a new wiget. But with crappy credit, no one wants your info :D

BP, you are so right it is not even funny. I have a freind who was stolen. There identity that is. It has been 6 years and things are still screwed up for her.

I do not recommend this for anyone else but it has worked for me.

Have four kids at age sixteen be a great dad from there on always helping them by co signing for things. As though grow and age becoming great adults they go through stages in growth and income. What happens is all the stuff you co signed for does not get paid for and your credit goes to H#$$. Then on top of that argue a few issues with the IRS and refuse to pay. Bottom line is that by the time your oldest is 27 and your youngest is 16 your 23 year old will make you a grand parent and need more help because she will have no money so everything can start all over again.

Now by now you may wish your credit was just a little worse so go get some trucks and enter a bad deal on one them, then make a deal to sell two of them to your oldest and her husband only to find out down the road they can pay you either.

Ok that should do it. You have now reached a point that if some Jack A## stills your identity it actually will help you. :) :) :)

Sorry! That is a very true story so I dont worry much about this, I sometimes hope for it. I can say what BroomPilot brings up is very good advice if you have credit worth stealing.

Watch it at TA resturants if you pay by credit card. When the waitress dissapears with your card anything can happen.
About 10 years ago The TA in Antioch Tn made a photo copy of my drivers license while purchasing a cooler with a credit card. The nent month there was a charge on my card for the cooler and another for $360.00 called "Comcheck Transaction".The charge was set aside by the card company, and ultimately was taken off.
