Here is the PROPOSED framework for the Michigan/Mississippi Flyway 2012-13 waterfowl season. NOTHING is firm yet.

NOTE the jump in the bluebill limit from 2 to 4! GREAT news for the Layoutshooter! Scaup, known as bluebills, are the primary duck found on Lake Erie where we hunt! We get covered up in them . Sure hope this holds!

Mississippi Flyway (Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin):

• Ducks: A hunting season is proposed of not more than 60 days between September 22, 2012, and January 27, 2013. The proposed daily bag limit is 6 and may include no more than 4 mallards (2 hens), 3 wood ducks, 1 mottled duck, 2 redheads, 4 scaup, 2 pintails, 1 black duck, and 1 canvasback. The proposed daily bag limit of mergansers is 5, only 2 of which may be hooded mergansers. In states that include mergansers in the duck bag limit, the daily limit is the same as the duck bag limit, only 2 which may be hooded mergansers.

• Geese: Generally, seasons for Canada goose would be held between September 22, 2012, and January 31, 2013, and vary in length among states and areas. States would be able to select seasons for light geese not to exceed 107 days with 20 geese daily between September 22, 2012, and March 10, 2013; for white-fronted geese the proposed season would not exceed 74 days with a 2-bird daily bag limit or 88 days with a 1-bird daily bag limit between September 22, 2012, and February 17, 2013; and for brant it would not exceed 70 days with a 2-bird daily bag limit or 107 days with a 1 bird daily bag limit between September 22, 2012, and January 31, 2012. There is no possession limit for light geese.

NOW who is off topic? LOL!! Those of us who hunt ASKED for this program to be set up. We lobbied our representatives to, not only help with the system, but to put special taxes on to pay for it. It works pretty darn well for the most part, and, MOST of the time manages to stay clear of politics. Once in a great while things work as they should.

Due to programs like this one, paid for out of taxes paid ONLY by those who use them, to private groups like Ducks Unlimited, Waterfowl USA, Delta Waterfowl, etc, the North American waterfowl populations are at modern, all time highs. Let us not also forget that not ONLY waterfowl benefits from good habitat work. Tens of thousands of species are thriving due to the work that, mainly HUNTERS, TRAPPERS, and FISHERMEN do, and MANKIND benefits the most.

The anti-hunters, the animal rights groups did NOTHING, other than cause trouble. The vast majority of people, do nothing.

Now, back on topic. You guy out there in the Central Flyway have an even better season than we do! same limits but a 74 day season. Hunting should be good this year, better get out there and take advantage of it! :D

LOL....all government in ANY kind business is bad....YOU said so.....poke

Won't work! LOL!!

THIS is a PRIME example of government OF the PEOPLE, FOR the PEOPLE and BY the PEOPLE! It came from the PEOPLE, not FORCED on us from the top down. In other words, it was done the correct way, which is why is functions as well as it does.

ALL of the surveys that are done, in cooperation with the Canadians and Mexicans, are done jointly by government AND private groups. They work TOGETHER for a common goal. THEN, after the general frameworks are set, the STATES hold PUBLIC meetings, to allow for PUBLIC INPUT, into the final seasons and limits set in each state. I have attended this meeting when I lived in PA. It was amazing to watch. EVERYONE who wished to speak to the committee, did. I saw regulations changed, due to the public input. It is too bad that the rest of the people in this country don't put as much effort into their government as waterfowl hunters do, eh?

NOW, back on topic, what type of decoys do you use? In your area, hunting mainly puddle ducks, I would be using my G&H decoys.

Nothing takes a load of BB better then the G&H..Mine are getting in preety rough shape with a few new hunters that have been going out with us.. (ok I admit I whacked a few myself)
If this heat doesnt break soon and the opener a few weeks away, We will be off to a slow start. Nothing is flying or using our feilds just yet..I thinking its just to hot for em to move unless they have to.
Plan on buying some new flags and maybe 1 dozen geese this year..Also want to clean up and paint some but dont know if I will get around to the painting in time???

If you folks out in that area run out of water, duck hunting will be the least of our worries
:D

The birds are around just not using any of the feilds or ponds we been checking out.Still a little time left to get some water back but its gotta come soon, fast and hard. It doesnt take a lot of water when hunting lil honey holes..
