Pretty Little Expediters All in a Row

Diane and I have never had to hunt for a parking place in the front lot of the Ontario, CA, TA before but we did on Wednesday (10/19/11). I was surprised to see every space full when we arrived. (Straight trucks and vans are allowed there. Semis and bobtail tractors are run off by security).

The usual sight is a couple to a dozen FedEx Custom Critical trucks and a truck or two or three from another carrier or two or three. This time was different. Represented in equal numbers were FedEx Custom Critical, Panther and Express-1. One van each was also there from Bolt, Prestige, Landstar and Load-1.

This photo, snapped on a foggy morning, shows 15 of the trucks. Others were scattered elsewhere in the lot. The only other place I have seen that many expediter trucks together is the Expedite Expo.

One snapshot on a Wednesday morning does not make a trend make but the sight left me wondering why so many trucks from so many carriers were seen at a place that is usually dominated by FedEx Custom Critical and graced by few others. We left in the afternoon for a Thursday pick up. About half of the trucks had departed by then.

Super nice shot of our industry representing!

I had similar thoughts. The scene lead me to think about the people who run those trucks, the freight moved, the customers served, etc. Those expediters, they get 'er done!

You can see the front of my van, it is right before the Sprinter. We left just before midnight and the parking lot was filled with Panther ST.

Phil, does this mean that FedEx CC people are looking for work while others are resting?

Sorry I missed you, paullud. dabluzman1 approached our truck as we pulled in and I visited with him, his wife and two other FedEx Custom Critical teams in the restaurant.

I would have loved to spend the entire day chatting with as many expediters as time permitted but duty called, which at that moment meant tending to a truck lamp, getting needed sleep and preparing for our next run.

It is unusual to see so many expediters from such a variety of carriers in one place, and to see van and straight truck drivers sharing the same parking lot. The weather was great after the morning fog lifted. If Diane and I would have had the time to spare, we would have broken out the lawn chairs and invited people together for an expediter gab fest.

Lawrence, I invite you to consider developing EO air strike capabilities. When 10 or more expediters from five or more carriers find themselves together in fair weather, a grill, all the fixings and the EO flag can be parachuted in upon request.

Lots of trucks, obviously I was misinformed or did not understand when I was told to stay out of CA , scratch that info.

anyone's know what are those 2 round buildings you all backed into ?
i thought they are an airport jet fuel tanks, but there are not any pipelines sticking out,
if they are, is that wise to park half of our community to it?,
considering the Lawrance airstrike and all...?

BTW, that White truck looks great.

YUPPER Ontario CA East TA. The Runs going out to CA are nice. But its Hotel CA (Eagles) Once you check in. But you can never leave so it seems. All the money you make on those big runs going to CA dont make up for the sitting you do once you get out there. The only thing I miss is running 7 miles out to the mountain then 7 miles back. Other than that I dont miss it. In 2005 & 2006 & 2007 & 2008 I bounced in and out of CA. To give u some type of idea of the running I did. when I got on the truck I named the Bull Aug 2005 it had 450,000 when I left the Truck Jan 2009 it had 1225000 on it. I made (averaged 1200.00) a week. I made da gone good money. But Equipment (Trailers over 10 Years got to say bye bye at the company) Now getting back to CA and those runns getting back out as quick as I did in 05 ta 08. Pulling a Contractors trailer,? Nope!! NO WAY Not Now!! On another note any OOPs that got a 53ft Trailer with a Carrier Reefer and a lift gate 2007 or newer contact me. Transporter, Im listening. Getting me to go to California now it has to be a round Robin or no dice. But offer me a load to Alaska and watch what happens. HMMM. One last note to all that turn down those SUB ZERO LOADS Thank YOU. Carriers ICE CREAM Reefers Rule & ThermoKings Reefers Drool. ROTFLMAO HG Have a nice weekend Everyone!

Great picture Phil.

That picture reminded me of the old days when everyone would park side by side like that at the Detroiter Truck Stop in Woodhaven, Mi. We all would go in and sit together and have coffee and talk about the business.

I look at that picture today and all the same trucks are still there?....

We returned to the Ontario TA lot last night after making a delivery nearby. One of the trucks that was here on Wednesday is still here now (Saturday). It is a FedEx Custom Critical team complaining that they are getting dispatched but their loads are canceling. All other trucks that we saw on Wed. are gone. A new batch is here now but only about half as many.
