I have a permant bunk with a fixed wall have insulated roof but the van isn't really that cold only 3-4 degres cooler than out side. If it one of the protable roll around units you need to isolate the bavk area aay from your sleeping area, as the back of it exhausts a lot of heat. What we did is made heavy duty curtains from a jean type fabric. I dont sew, so I used stitch witchery glue, folded a three inch sction gluing the bottom edge only, and ran a clothesline type rope through the top. Used that to tie to two points in the van and hung it up blocking the warm air up front.

Not enough power. Rewire it!

yes I have checked the A/C to make shure it's blowing cold air i've tried all the setting and read the owners manual. I have shortened the exhaust hose and that seems to help a bit thinking of getting some pipe insulation for it too

I use a 5,000 window AC for my sprinter....Problem is like Jenny said...the heat from that exhaust hose is probably negating any cooling benefit whatsoever...5,000 BTU is not alot...should of went with the 10,000 btu..your gen could handle that...

Have you checked BOTH A/C coils Condenser behind the grille and Evap in the heat/airbox and any cabin filters. If theyre crudded up you wont have airflow and you will turn your A/C into an icemaker. Most hardware stores sell a condenser brush th clean the coils use the brush and a shop vac. You will have to disassemble the dash to get to the evap coil.

I would agree not big enough. I had a 4500 and it barely did anything. Like others said the exhaust tube let's a lot of heat back via the thin walls, wrap insulate the tube will help a good amount.

You should really insulate the side walls and bulk head. Cutting reflectix for all windows to block all sun and a curtain between the seats and bunks also will increase cooling drastically. I have a 12500 rooftop and use curtains behind the seats and behind the bed to shrink space.
