How has the frigid weather impacted you? More loads? Less? Frozen?
I've only had three loads this week but the paid total loaded miles was 2219 miles. The last load delivered yesterday morning 115 miles from my house. Two of the three loads were weather related.

The first load picked up Monday night. When I got there the shipper was confused. He only had two loads going out. One he had already loaded and he was waiting on a truck for the other. That load was going to the same consignee I was dispatched to only problem was it was 40,000+ pounds. He made some calls and found out I was sent in to get one pallet that was needed asap because the scheduled truck was stuck somewhere due to weather.

The second load brought me to the Detroit area but was not weather related.

The third load picked up in Toledo and delivered in Long Prairie, MN. I picked it up at an LTL terminal. The load had originated in Delaware and was already behind on the scheduled delivery time due to the weather.

I'm at home, did some work on my van. I changed oil and greased the front end. Will be back in service this afternoon hoping for a load somewhere warm so I can wash my van.

It would appear that the "Storm of Jan, 2014" was worse than I thought it was. State Farm has activated it's disaster teams to help handle all the claims for damage. The adjuster I spoke with said this was one of the worst snow/cold events she has ever had to deal with.

It was 17 below @ 6 AM Tuesday morning. Which is the coldest since I moved here in 1999. Horses & Mules came through fine. Neighbors lost some older cattle. One friend lost a mother cow but the calf survived.

The damage to my house has exceeded 10K and it may go higher. It was a combination of many things. The main thing is that the kind of storm we had is very rare around here. This was unlike any I have seen around before.

never got lake effect snow that bad? I know you are at the west end of Erie which doesn't really get a lot of lake effect....like my town of Hamilton Ont....west end of Lake Ontario....but when the winds shift and are westward off the lake...oh boy biggie storm....

Not in my lifetime. Some say that a storm in 1978 was almost as bad. I was in England at the time so I missed that one. Lake effect snow on this side of the Lake is very rare. It takes a kind of Nor'Easter to get that. Even then we seldom get the combination of wind/temps and snow levels like we had this time.

This side of the Lake is more famous for it's ice storms.

"78 was a bad one for Hamilton as well....westward winds off Ontario...dumped like 24" in 18 hours....just the shear volume so quickly was overwhelming...

I don't know what happened here. It would seem '78 was not confined to the US. We had the one and only big blizzard while we were in England that year. Could not get up to the base for 3 days. Heavy snow in Yorkshire is even more rare than here.

I guess the winds and the rotation was just perfect to crank up the snow machine...

This one came from the SW, lots of Gulf moisture, then the cold joined the party at the same time. My roof took a real beating. Snow blowing up under the shingles, then the ice dams and water backing up under them. What a mess it is going to be.

OK for now but the damage is done. The repairs will start when the weather is better. Too dangerous to be putting roofs on right now.

the storm with its counter clock wise rotation passed just to the south and kept going east instead of arching northeast...anything on the westside got dumped on........creating west winds off the lakes....

sounds also you might need some extra attic insulation...if the snow melted when underneath creating the ice dams...but your contractor will know that...

First the insulation we have, 8" of the pink rolled stuff, has to all come out. It is ruined, soaked. Then they MAY have to replace ALL the ceilings, except for one hallway, in the house. At the very least 4' in from each outside wall will have to be fixed. They believe doing the ceiling may be faster and less expensive. They are likely going to have to remove the kitchen cabinets to work in there. They have yet to evaluate the walls, but I saw no visible signs of water damage to them. Nothing ran into the basement. It appears that the water leached along the ceiling joists.

Not sure what the roof will look like under the shingles, they won't know that until they get the shingles off.

It continues. Now the governor has declared an emergency due to shortages of heating oil and propane. Recent storms have interfered with deliveries. HOS of fuel truck drivers has been suspended.

Snyder Declares Emergency Over Propane Shortage

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has declared an emergency because of a temporary shortage of heating oil and propane caused by increased demand in recent subzero weather.

Snyder said Friday the shortage also is due to heavy snowfall that delayed delivery of heating oil and propane.

The governor's executive order suspends regulations to allow fuel trucks to be on the road more hours and more days in a row to deliver heating oil and propane.

The order is effective immediately and will stay intact until Jan. 31 or until it's rescinded, whichever occurs first.
