When you said you'd were going to

Pointe Mouillee State Game Area is located part in Brownstown Twp, Wayne County and in part in Monroe County Michigan. It is the largest fresh water estuary restoration project in North America and one of the largest in the world.

The Pointe Mouillee Waterfowl Festival and Michigan Duck Hunters Tournament have been going on now for 65 years. I knew those who started it and grew up with a love for that marsh. I come home every year to work at the Festival. It is free to all and all proceeds from the events and raffles, after the Festival expenses, go into the marsh.

I hunt with many of those who are involved the the Festival. I am proud to call them my friends. Without events like this and hunters in general there would be nothing left of the wetlands in Michigan and the heritage of waterfowling.

I was far more active prior to becoming an expediter. I was on the Festival committee. My wife and I are also on the Monroe County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and do what we can to support that as well. It is what good stewards of nature do.

I will be out there both Saturday and Sunday at 6AM. The Festival opens at 8AM, it closes at 5PPM. Our Ducks Unlimited will have a spot there and Mrs. Layoutshooter will be out there with them on Sunday. There are shooting events on both days. There is parking for vans and sprinters. Feel free to come out and enjoy the marsh life. If anyone wants to chip in and do some work I am SURE we can find something for you to do!

8AM to 5PM both days. Now what I have to do is to try REAL hard NOT to buy the boat I saw brought in by one of the vendors today! It is NOT going to be an easy task!

I am buying some shotgun shells there. I buy some every year. Best shells on the market. Fast and VERY clean.

I wasn't even thinking of buying stuff over there with the vendors..Do they run really good deals..
Thinking a few more decoys this year..And a fiberglass canoe but will properly garage sale the canoe since it will be left in the swap.

Sometimes there are some good buys on used stuff. Knutson's is there every year and so is DecoyRigs. Several boat dealers etc.

I will be working at the gate early in the morning checking in vendors. Then later I MAY be at the information booth selling raffle stuff.

In between I will but buying shells and drooling over the boat.

Bring your calls if you have them and call in the calling contests. You may qualify to move up to National! I don't call, good thing I hunt divers!

The Lynch Mob will be there. I think Fred Zink is coming again, he hunts with us from time to time. He has shot two DVD's with us. Glenn Scoby used to come out when he was alive. The place drips with waterfowl hunting history. You can even take a bus tour of the dike system and see the entire project.

For the Geese,,nothing better then a Scoby call in my book..single reed..My brother runs the double reeds but I cant get the hang of em.. My Scoby will walk a goose from a 1/2 mile right into the decoys..great call..single cluck is a killer every time on the water.

gotta bed down..5am p-up...
If things work out Ill see ya this weekend unless freight gets in the way..And out of Cleavland,,fat chance with this carrier... Guarantee D/Head out

We had a wonderful, albeit tiring, time at Pointe Mouillee this past weekend. Saturday started with rain but it cleared up early. Crowds were down, so were the number of vendors, BUT, sales and show profits were up!

It was great to spend some time with old friends and raise some money for the marsh. It was also REALLY enjoyable to meet up with "Slo-Ride". He and his wife came out there and managed to find me. It was great to put a face with a name. Even better when the person you are meeting shares your love of the outdoors.

Took a few years but we finnally met up..Was a pleasure meeting..Sorry we missed meeting your wife,Hopefully at the next event.
We took the bus tour and it is a preety big project out there..hope those sales and donations help. I know the trip got into our pocket book a lil but not as bad as yours.. Nice choice by the way.
Really going to try to get over there this season and hunt..Thinking I would like to get in that flooded corn before the Mallards leave. (Or the day the others come down :))

It's best on a day when the wind is out of the west or southwest and HOWLING! Then it does not matter if you hunt the draw zone or not. If you get the chance to get out here I really want to get you out on the Lake. You need to help me break in the new toy.

Sorry I did not have more time to talk with you but I was rather busy that weekend. I have not heard the final figures but we put quite a bit of money into the marsh this year again. Looking forward to a chance to hunt with you and making working at the Ducks Unlimited dinner next spring.
