Plural of Bus

Every time I see a weigh station sign that says "busses" I wonder why the sign makers don't use a spell checker. Perhaps "busses" is a real word, but I don't think it is. Then again, when I see some of the knuckleheads running these weigh stations I am not surprised that they don't know how to spell.

I am waiting to see a sign that reads "Weigh Station, All Truckses Must Enter."

Although it looks strange busses would be the primary pluralization of bus with buses being secondary because of the u sound. Buses could imply a u sound like in fuse/fuses.

Oh, okay. So if there were a convention of people named Gus, the sign on the hotel would read "Welcome Gusses"?

Not sure on that one but possibly so. The joys of the English language. No wonder it wasn't an easy A in school.

The correct spelling is "busses", but you will often see it as Buses.

Why? Simply because it's one less letter on the sign, and since many charge by the letter/character...
it's cheaper to put "buses", than "busses".

I think the government likes to use "busses" alot more,
for the simple reason of it's a way to spend money.

I just wished they'd clarify at ALL rest areas AND at Every service plaza where they want the darn bus to go and park!

Smile and have a nice ride on board all motor coaches.

Any other questions about the bus?

It occurred to me that the signs could read "Bus Drivers Must Weigh", but then I realized that might create more confusion than it resolved.:)

Thanks for clearing up the issue Bob. Busses just looks weird to me. So I suppose the folks going to the Gus convention in my example above by bus would want to go to the "Busses to Gusses Convention" pickup area.

Hows opps How's this. Arizona has flashing light Exit weigh station to (ENTER) I was puzled at first what it meant at 60 mph as it flashed me in so for caution I went in think I would have had a good arguement in court if I would have kept going?
