We are pleased to announce the addition of a very experienced Driver, Owner Operator, and Moderator to our Mod Squad.

Please help us welcome Notanewbie, aka Monty!

If he seems familiar, it's because posters who have been around 'a while' will probably remember him as the former Admin over at the Truck.net trucking forums.

Welcome Monty!

Intro from Monty!

I began trucking in 1969, working for Allied Van Lines in the
Washington, DC area, doing local moves, load in the morning, unload
in the afternoon.

By the end of the summer I was ready to move on ..... and I secured a
job with Esso, (now Exxon), delivering fuel oil, also in the DC area,
that was a seasonal job, and I was not invited to stay there the next summer.

I did several makeshift jobs, including delivering containerized
furniture for the military for Red Ball Express.

After a summer of various jobs, I went to work for a man that had
several trucks leased to Midwest Emery, and thus began my true over
the road experience. Being young and smart I knew I could
do better with the "lease purchase" . Everyone listen to me ... NEVER
lease a truck from the man that controls the freight. I also
attempted another "lease purchase" from ATI, (American Transport), I
might have made it there, but repairs were killing me on the older equipment.

I worked for many Omaha based meat haulers, including Midwest
Seaboard, Best Refrigerated, Silvey Refrigerated, Scheuman Trucking,
Little Audrey to name a few. This continued for 5 years, at which
time I went to work for CRST, which was an excellent company, the
"old man" Harold Smith was still at the helm, I was a driver trainer
for them there. My wife also joined me, and we were the first team
that CRST ever had. We ran Kodak products from Rochester, Ny. to the
west coast, mostly California.

I tried a stint at Subler Transport as a driver, then a dispatcher.
That didn't work so well, so I went to work for Schneider Transport,
(Not Schneider National). I was with the union division until they
began the non-union division, National. All the time while at
Schneider I was watching these small trucks, with Roberts Express logo's.

I finally was able to meet with a recruiter and that began my
expediter experience in 1985. I was with Roberts until 1994, when the
micro managing became to much for me. I liked running my own
business, my own way.

I went back to semi's with Hot Shot Express, and was with them until
2004, (I did have about 9 months off the road working for iFleet, who
had purchased TruckNet) when I purchased my first Sprinter van and
leased it to Landstar. Landstar has a NO EXCUSE policy, have a
chargeable accident in the first year and your contract is cancelled.
11 months and 3 weeks into the contract, I had a fender bender in
stop and go traffic, he stopped, I went!

I returned to Hot Shot and stayed there until April 2010, when I once
again purchased a Sprinter and returned to Landstar. Where I remain
today, eyeing retirement!

In 1994 while fooling around with the Internet I came up on this
place called TruckNet. It had a Matt's Script Board, an early message
board program. I was continually emailing the owner, Craig Zwiener,
and asking him to moderate the thing and correct a lot of
misinformation and simple stupidity on that board. Finally he made a
challenge, "You want it moderated, you do it!"

Monty did indeed become a moderator, and then became the Admin there for several years! He says he is proud to be able to serve the EO community!

Does this mean I get a free place to sit down at Expo?
