Probably time to scrap the free "Obama phones".
From the article:
Though the program has spanned multiple administrations, some conservatives have recently nicknamed it the "Obamaphone" . . .
Ideally, Griffin says he would like to get rid of the program created in the mid-80s altogether, but he knows he lacks the support to kill it . . . Griffin’s plan would get rid of the cell phones and provide only landline service and phones.
In other words, he would like to continue to get elected but would also like to come up with some dog and pony show to make it seem like he is doing something.
Questions:
1) Would it really save money to run phone lines in to a shack and install phone jacks and a conventional phone vs mailing a cheap cell phone?
2) Would this actually result in a lower Federal Universal Service Charge?
When have any cost savings lowered a tax or fee?
3) Is this a serious attempt to save us from a Government imposed fee or just another politician running his pie hole.
How about this solution:
Get rid of the imposed fee!
Provide a block on the bill that can be checked yes by anyone who wants to voluntarily contribute.
Provide phones to the most needy first based on the amount collected and available.
When the money runs out, the less needy figure out their own solution.
