Has anyone out there ever had to have a front axle changed to increase gvwr.Unfotunatly my pete 330 was built with 10000# rating on front axle.Talking to pete they say to change front axle ,drum & brakes-$$?,or would it be cheaper to put on pusher and load wieght more to rear.Any information would be appreciated.THANKS BIG DOG(Randy)

Are you sure about that front axle rating? Check the info card on door frame. This sounds a little unlikely as the normal axle would of been a 12000 lbs. unit? Are you running a "D" unit? Do you need a tag or pusher axle to have the capacity to haul 13000 lbs? Do you have room for another axle either in front or behind your current axle?

Glen thanks for your tme and response.Yes I'm tring to run this as a D unit ,I have checked the door sticker and called pete with vin# to verify what I too thought was low rating .Unfortunatly it is a 10000# front and I wieght 19000# empty. Fedex needs 13000# load .Math not in my favor!Hate to do it but might have to run as C unit till funds are there for pusher .Yes is room in front for axle but not in back because of lift gate. Thanks--Randy

Your truck was originally built for a non cdl driver. Axles are at that weight to keep it under 26,000 lbs. A rebuild on the front axle is around 1500. I am not sure why they are telling you to change the brakes. It probably has the same drum size as a 12,000 axle. Main axle housing, additional springs and shackles is all you should need.

I had exactly the same issue with one I bought from JXE Peterbilt 3 years ago. We resolved it this way: per discussion with Dana:
10 & 12K axles are essentially the same & use all same parts. Except: the tie rod ends. Change out the tie rod ends, put a new sticker on the door from Dana confirming a 12K rating and voila, you are in business. You do not need anything else- like expensive spindles. That does assume you have 12,000 lb. spring rating. Otherwise, you may have to change that as well. Talk to JXE in Waukesha if you still can't get the right answer.
As you may know by now, not all Pete dealers are created equal. London & Woodstock, ON. and Dermody, Grand Rapids are the best I've found.
Despite the OEM sticker saying a 31K GVW vs. 33K, I have never had an issue at any scale house.

I had added the spring issue because it wasn't mentioned as to what he had. I was not aware you could get that kind of sticker from Dana. I thought it would have to come from the manufacturer. Simular to a dump truck when they add additional axles and have to have it recertified. Good advise to contact a dealer with some knowledge in this area.
