a question for all of you pets Owners ,Pets Owners that drive owners trucks ,and truck Owners .
in your opinion ,
what will be a reasonable amount of 'pet escrow' for allowing a pet in an Owner truck ?

Yup, a couple of bills oughta do it. I'd be willing to put more down, though, if necessary. Having Paisan in the truck makes life on the road much more enjoyable and is worth whatever is required to have her with me.

That's my way of thinking also.
from an owner perspective ,having pets in the truck CAN be a good investment .
since in many cases (not all) ,the missing loads opportunity ,is not an issue - having a pet in the truck is actually very good for drivers retention .
as long as that pet is house broken .
however ,how can one ignore the massive destruction that can be done to a nice sleeper .

I don't know where you monetarily draw the line, honestly. I see both sides of the issue. I currently have an animal that has never, not once, had an accident inside, sleeper or house. I brush her everyday so there isn't even a pet hair issue. But then again, there are dogs and cats I know who have been allowed to virtually destroy and befoul living quarters, and the owners think that's normal. Destruction is what it is - if a seat is torn up from rough use or animal clawing, does it matter? Smells, stains, excessive hair - these can all be worded in a contract. I think I'd go with Cheri's idea and set the deposit according to a seriously detailed detailing.

Considering what some drivers do I'd think an escrow amount for the driver being inclusive of pets etc. would be a better solution. I'd think that would be a larger amount than just a pet deposit also. It should cover anything not returned in the same condition taken with normal wear factored in.

Well let's see.

it is a truck,

it needs to be cleaned and taken care of regardless because it is a truck.

I know that every truck that has new drivers in one fleet get a going through regardless who drove it. It costs $175 for a real cleaning and over a two year period, that isn't much money per month.

I wonder how many owners out there don't replace mattresses between drivers because they are ** cheap **

I wonder how many drivers climb into a used mattress without demanding (or at least request) it get replaced.

I agree, many don't get the point of clean.

If the driver wants to put a new mattress he is free to buy one. If I would buy a new mattress after every driver I may go broke .I try to keep the vehicle clean and I do not allowed any pets in my vehicles. But yes ,I may be cheap :)

Mike, if you have that high of a turnover with drivers that this will break you then maybe you are doing something wrong.

If you have one issue with say ... bed bugs or which are hard to get rid of, then you will have more expenses. I already went through the bedbug thing, it cost me a lot of time and effort to rid of them in my own truck. One night in a hotel/motel, your drivers can pick them up.

I ran into an owner who for the most part has a turnover of driver at 2 every 6 months. It seems that he can not keep anyone in his trucks, which I pointed out maybe he needs to sell the trucks and go find something else to do.

I still think a lot of owners are cheap.

I don't have a high turnover ,I just can't see the reason to buy a new mattress after each driver... If this means cheap ,yes I'm cheap :)
