I am trying to help out my former neighbor, so here are a few question;

I am looking for some info on Penske box vans, you know those yellow cutaways.

What length is your box?

Your GVW?

Do you know what it weighs?

Thanks in advance

Greg, try a P.M. to MSinger. He/she has a 15' 2002 GMC, Old Yeller. I think the full spec's were listed once, but I couldn't find them. GVWR in the sig. line is listed as 10,000#

Yep! The GVWR is 10,000# even.
Interior length is 14.5' (even though some are advertised as 15' or 16').
Interior width is 92"
Rear door opening is 72" high
Deck height is 40" from ground.
Some have pass through doors but I've noticed alot of the 05 and newer one's do not.
I can't remember the exact empty weight before my additional equipt but it was under 7,000#. The Penske website shows 6800#
Gas mileage is about 11.5. However yesterday with the help of Lucas fuel treatment, Lucas oil treatment and a good tailwind I achieved 13.29 mpg. My best ever on this truck. We'll see how long it lasts. I was about a quart low on oil so I used a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. It looked so thick as I was pouring it in (like honey) it almost made me nervous but something did the trick.

Also make sure if your friend wants to stay under 10,001# to stick with the GMC chassis.
Penske has some Ford chassis with the same box that have decals on the outside of the door that states "GVWR Under 10,000 lbs" however when you open the door and look at the mfg sticker it shows GVWR as 11,500.

I got stopped yesterday by Indiana State Police on 231/67 south of Spencer. The officer did not really care to see my license or registration but immediately opened my driver's door to check sticker for GVWR. He said "We are doing truck inspections today and you are under the limit. Have a nice day" Got back in his car and left.

Thanks for the info, it helps.

What engine do you have in it?

Oh do you have a flat floor in yours?

And I keep telling people that it is the sticker that counts.

I've seen some of the GMC trucks listed on the Penske used website as 6750 tare weight. Most of those are gassers, so it's probably a 5.7L . 6 cylinder.

i talked to a fella at badger truck sales a coupel weeks back. he said the pass thru doors are not that available and that the only ones he had used were on the ford chassis with the ps engine. also the only under 10k trucks were the fords. all the chevy were 11,5 and higher.

Jack,
I don't want to tell you "you are wrong" but I will say the guy you talked to is wrong. All of the Ford E-350 Penske's have the 5.4L V-8 gas. Ford did not even offer a 10,000# GVWR on that chassis until the 2007 model year which would not yet be in the available pre-owned fleet from Penske. I've also never seen a "Chevy Penske". They are primarily GMC
's with a few Ford's in the mix.

Some have a flat floor and others have wheel wells in the box. I threw the question in as an after thought.

Yes mine has the flat floor as do all of the Penske models with dual rear wheels. My 2002 has the 5.7L (350) gas engine. The 2003's and newer have the 6.0L gas. Both are good motors.

yeah the fords were diesel and they were walk thru but the gvw was 11,5 or 12,3. seems walk thru is not being ordered as much as before.
