PC Miler vs. ?????

Greetings to all;

Had a question about how mileage pay is calculated.

I see that some companies compute mileage by the PC Miler practical platform method.

And, other companies use other platforms-not sure what they're called.........but the other calculation methods seem to add up to less paid miles. I've done a couple of calculations and it looks like you get paid for about 8 percent less miles using the other methods.

Does that sound right to you expeerienced drivers out there?

So, if a few companies all pay within a few cents of each other, and-for example purposes, you went on the same trip- it looks like the one paying PC Miler method would actually pay the most for that trip.

Could I get some feedback on this please?

Thanks,

Hi k9man,

The way I understand it, there are hub miles, which are the true miles the truck has moved. I don’t know of any expediter company that uses this form of routing. Household Mover’s Guide miles are the shortest milage routes between two points, which will use back roads or have been characterized as “how the crow flies”. Practical miles are miles that are figured on the shortest routes based on travel time, figuring in averages of congestion speeds, traffic conditions, and actual routes that can be traveled with a truck. This milage is closer to the real milage you would actually travel and typically routes from post office to post office/area code to area code. I have read that HHG miles are often as much as 10% less than practical miles.

Yes, I would say that PC Miler uses the most practical routing and I think that most of the expediting companies use it. I would ask though before signing on with any carrier.

PC Miler I think currently has over ten versions according to Panther. The other one they use is Rand McNally. While better than HHG, the routing can be off because it doesn't always use truck routes. When we compare using our computer and odometer readings, PC miler is always the closest.
