So I got A ticket 4:00 A.M. Fri morn for crossing white line or marked lane violation as they called it. It's $100.00 and 2 points on my license my record has been clean for over 3 1/2 years. not sure if I should pay the ticket since the points are the minumum or pay $400.00 for Alegal service to fight it and then theres no garrantees. What would you do?

My opinion is if you are guilty pay the fine and be done with it.
Less stress, less money and a guaranteed outcome.

Talk to Safety at your carrier. You don't want to fail to report something like that, for sure, but they may have a suggestion.

I got the same thing in Illinois barely touched it but got an attorney. Needless to say the load i was going to pick up was for free by the end after i payed everything but my licence has alot of points back from my teen days lol so I thought it be best to get it dropped.

Pay it.
IF that officer comes to court he will say that you admitted for fault.
he can also add that you admitted for having loose items in the cab.
and improper use of seat-belt.
sorry.
never speak to an officer, everything you say can and will be used against you.

Unless you're old and nearing retirement I wouldn't take any points without putting up a fight.
If it's an area you can get too easily,go fight it yourself.
The LEO officer may not show up.
Or call the prosecuter and try and work out a deal on the phone.
It beats waving the white flag.

Fight it.

In todays age, even an admission of guilt on your part, (which you should never do), is worth fighting. CSA scores and infringing regulations say you MUST keep that driving record clean. Or join the folks with the signs on the street corners.

If he was following you and clearly saw it then his camera saw it also.
In addition, you not only admitted it but also gave a full explanation as to why.

I'm just not feeling hopeful with this case but if it is not a cross country drive to get to the court it may be worth going and crossing your fingers that he doesn't show.

I would do some research on what the law is exactly and call a lawyer to get their opinion if your not sure. A white line can be crossed and when driving a larger vehicle you usually favor that side for safety. If you went way over the line then that could be an issue but just going over a little could be fought.

Where do you guys see he admitted to it and gave a reason why? Maybe I missed it but I've read it four times.

But if you crossed a solid white line and he saw you I would just pay it and try to stay clean til those points fall off.

I think he crossed the solid line like the ones in construction zones that have signs that say stay in lane. I could be wrong though as I usually am lol.

I believe it was the solid white line but white lines can be crossed legally where a solid yellow line cannot. He should take a little time to research the exact citation he received and the law regarding white lines. Sometimes what the officer thinks the law means is not what it says. I certainly wouldn't go into court and say I went over the line because I was bent over picking up a drink but he might have a legal technicality to fight.

Did you get the ticket in VA? If it was out of state than the points won't matter. At least that's how it is in NYS if you get a ticket out of state.

Points depends on the agreement your licensing state has with the state you received the violation in..

Is there a way to plead it down? I got a ticket in August. I stopped at an intersection, waited till the traffic cleared, then turned right on red. Oops, missed the No Turn on Red sign. Cop gave me a ticket for running a red light. Went to trial, and was able to plead it down to "failure to obey sign". Fine was the same, but no points :D . Win for me....

I beg to disagree, that may be true if you are operating under a regular drivers liscense. Add CDL to that and ALL tickets will be reported, first to the feds, then to your state.

It is not points on the CDL here you must be concerned with, it is your individual CSA score.

In this era, you must retain and attorney and fight to keep that record clean. Or you soon will not be hireable.

A single solid white line is intended to discourage, but not prohibit you from changing lanes (crossing double solid white lines is prohibited everywhere). Although in some states crossing a single solid white line is illegal (NJ for sure). If you decide to cross a solid white line anyway, you may be guilty of an unsafe lane change depending on the circumstances (like in a construction zone, or on those curves through downtown Detroit). I think in Ohio a solid white line is considered to be a traffic control device, and they'll get you every time for a marked lane violation.

It was not in VA it was on the ohio tnpke not a construction zone but the white line on the right hand side next to the breakdown lane. He said 1 tire went over it. I could not believe I was getting A ticket for something like that at 4:00 am and iwas only driving 58 mph in A 70 mph hardly any traffic on the road. I was polite and apologetic but barney fife couldnt let me go with just a warning.

I might be inclined to say I was getting ready to avoid a deer I saw running towards the road.
