This has probably been talked about before. But Im looking into possibly getting a member of the dog family (not going to say what) to tag along in the truck with me. What all would you guys suggest I do if i was to take a dog with me?

Get a small mutt from the shelter and teach it to be alert when you are and to sleep when you do. We had a pomeranian in the truck for one trip and returned it to the owner at first opportunity; too hyper and constantly interupted our sleep, day or night. Our mutt from an Alaskan pound was our best friend and companion for several years in the van. I also think a smaller dog is easier to be inconspicuous. Whatever you get, don't forget to get a shot record card and/or proof of rabies document (tags are not enough) if you ever might go to Canada

I travel with my Boxer and it is working out great. In the warmer months he gives me a reason to get out of the truck and walk him. Therefore causing me to get exercise. ;)

A dog is a great addition to your life. Hooligan has been traveling with me since he was 6 weeks old. He stayed home this past week, and I really missed him.

You can also deduct the expenses of a dog on your taxes as a security device.

The only drawback is that most people remember Hooligan, but not me.

I'm not sure if you've heard of or had a chance to consider this, so I thought I'd mention it.

Some loading docks and facilities won't let you on property with a pet. We've discovered this at nuke plants, some chem plants, and most recently at a Dupont facility.

A couple of them had holding areas, would let the passenger stay at the gate with the pet, one would actually let the guard watch your doggie. Dupont wouldn't allow them at all. We even had to put our cell phones with cameras into lockers to enter.

If you have the ability to indentify those runs ahead of time and beg-off of them, your doggie should help with your sanity.

Scottish Terriers are good traveling companions, they dont shed, have a deep bark but are not hyper, Males are usually in the 20-22 lb range Females up to about 18 lbs.

Colors are usually Black, Brindle, (grey and black) or off white ( rare)

We have gotten ours at the same breeder for years out of Fort Wayne Indiana, they have an ad in Dog Fancy Magazine.

Speaking of Expierence on Boxers, wonderfull Breed after two years old. Puppies up to two oh boy fun, fun, fun, thats all they think about and more fun. Very clean, smart, fast, protective, and most of all friendly to everyone when you are around.

I now have a Pug great protective dog, so she thinks. This is why she stays home plus she is not yet two. Everyone is her friend and to her they all come by to see her. Ottis or Mitto?

Broom... you talkin about Milo and Otis?

We had an orange cat which I named Otis, after the cat in the movie. Strangely enough, Otis is the pug :D

Milo - "You're a strange looking cat."
Otis - "Oh, I'm not a cat. I'm a dog."
Milo - "A dog, right. But deep down inside, we're all really cats, right?"
Otis - "No... deep down inside I'm a dog. I'm a dog."
