Faxed my paperwork in suposively got an approval than someone Lied. Got to the booth to only be told Not In System go to Impound. How in the heck can this happen that my office was not contacted.

Why as drivers should we put up with a Brokers LIE and than to top it off not even get paid for sitting for their screw up? If I could ever find out who did this they would get a call everytime I had a late night run.

Just a warning to all of you thinking of Crossing, 4 times I have crossed 2 times I have sat for more than 12 hours waiting, no restaurants, no nothing but a toilet and a vending machine that only takes Canadian. Yeah I was gona stop at Duty Free but no...... Go to IMPOUND, so no Canadian Exchange $. No food no nothing sit, and behave, and well call you when we feel like it. Just my opinion, I am only gona give it one more chance otherwise I am better off with out the load. Unless you can help me with identifying problems before I get the suprise by Customs.

Broompilot Brokers haven't time to call all carriers where PARS are refused.

Hey man! We don't LIE! What you get paid is between you and the carrier. There could've been a keying error; all sorts of things.

You seem to have a lot of troubles at Customs. Is it the same customer each time?
I'm talking shipper - receiver,
Who made out those papers that held you up over Memorial Day?
They are the people who screwed up.

Why don't you carry a small float of Canadian dollars?
20 Canadian would cost you about 16.00 US.

BROOM PILOT.
I cross the border 3-4 times a wk. & never have the problems you have. There must be something wrong with your paper work? Do you make sure you have a dollar figure on your invoice?Do you have an invoice?,i have seen drivers come in to brokers offices with a just a bill of lading that doesn't cut it.Some things you should make sure you have before you leave the shippers office.Invoice whith a dollar value, who the broker is,who is paying the brokerage fees? These few steps will make it a lot easier on you when you get to the border, especially if your PARS has failed or your PAPS.

I had a broker but that changed when I visited him as it was at anothers. Problem with the paperwork was Shipper put they were paying for it when they did not have an account with the broker, but the consignee did. So this was my FAULT?

Not an expert at this, and as for Canadian funds, my plan was to stop at Duty Free but was told by Customs to report to the yard. Also tried earlier to get $ at a bank they had to order it.

We were told or I was that the Pars had cleared before I got to the border I would not have crossed and enjoyed my time in Tiger Stadium that weekend instead of sitting on concrete.

You gave me some insight but I need more to understand all of this, (who is paying for the duty) Yes $ amount was listed everything on the paperwork was great except for they should not have listed that they are actually paying for it the shipper that is. For now on I am letting the shipper know that if this Pars is not cleared in 2 hours I am returning the goods to there dock, I am not sitting without pay any longer. Seems fair to me to demand this of course in a polite way. I called later that afternoon and was informed everything was OK. So someone did not tell the truth.

I crossed the border 3 times last week. Twice in Windsor and once in Sarina. First crossing was from Columbus to Leamington. Crossing time was about 30 seconds. Second crossing was from Toledo to Cambridge. Crossing time about 2 minutes. Third and final time was Erie to Windsor. Crossing time less then a minute.

The key to the whole thing, starts when your still at the shipper. Make sure all of their Canadian paperwork is correct. Place your PARS sticker on the paperwork, and write your company name, unit number as well as your crossing point and approximate crossing time.

Fax the paperwork FROM THE SHIPPER! GET A CONFIRMATION SHEET FROM THEIR FAX MACHINE! DON'T LEAVE UNTIL THESE STEPS ARE COMPLETE!

About 30 minutes after I leave the shipper, I call the broker and make sure that they got the fax. If you don't do this, and you get to the border and they say, "go see the broker", it's your fault!

One hour before I get to Detroit, I call the broker again and make sure the load has cleared and it's OK to cross. If it's not ready, DO NOT CROSS. If you do decide to cross, and they say, "go see the broker", it's your fault!

OK, now a brief story about my crossing in Sarnia last week. I picked up in Toledo. The paperword was faxed from the shipper and I received a confirmation sheet. Called the broker, and they had received the paperword. Enroute toward Windsor, dispatch sent me a message over the Q/C, and told me the bridge was going to be closed, and I would need to cross in Sarnia. No problem. I stopped, refaxed the paperword to the Sarnia office with the crossing change on it, and called the broker. They said the paperwork had cleared, and I could go ahead and cross.

Got to the border in Sarnia, handed the very nice girl my paperword and CDRP card. She said, " the paperwork is OK, but they have you set-up to cross in Windsor". I explained to her that the bridge was closed for Freedom Fest. I figured I would be headed to the broker to get the crossing changed, or something. She said, "hang on a second, and I'll make the change for you". She made the change and I was on my way.

I truely believe, that most of the problems people run into at the border, are problems that come from being impatient or because you give off a "bad attitude" at the booth, or on the phone with the broker.

Just remember, that border crossing officer isn't the one causing the problem. It's either you or the broker. ;)

Thanks for the advice but your wrong, being the son of a Detroit Police officer I learned very early in life to not smart off to authority and especially if they had a badge and gun. None of the earlier post is correct.

One thing I have lerned in this business vs past business expierence was I use to be in charge of deadlines and when things got finished. Trucking your a sucker to all others crap take it with a grain of salt that is exactly how I took it. Happy no Pissed no this is trucking and its another day waisted probalby with no compensation but I already accepted the load and since I am not Superman tossing the freight out was gona be more difficult than just delivering it LATE..
