parking problems

Are there any good places to park a van while waiting in Romulus, MI? All I have found are a community building across from the NAPA store and the bowling alley. Don't like the community bldg in the summer 'cause there is a kiddie playground next to it. Don't like hanging round little kids. Gives the wrong signals. Thanks.

There's a small truckstop on Ecorse road just northeast of the airport that usually has a few vans at one end of the lot.

MADCO truckstop is at Inkster and Ecorse. Southland mall (and several smaller malls and a Meijer) is on Eureka east of Telegraph. IKEA has a HUGE parking lot. They're off 275 at Ford and Haggerty. Personally, I'd go with Southland, or the adjacent Meijer.

The Detroiter is a ****hole.

I go there only if I absolutly have to, like for a FedEx meeting where I had lunch and spent the night throwing up. The last time I had to stop there was for my wife and she is tolerant of dirty places and was mad at me for stopping.

If I need fuel, I will go down to exit 18 or 15 at Pilot or T/A first or head for the station on Plymouth and Telegraph.

There are more than 5 other truck stops in the Metro area seeing that they include Flint and Saline as part of Metro area.

T-hawk mentioned IKEA, your nuts if you go there, too much traffic but on the other side of 275 (east side) and ford is walmart/sams club on the north side and a shopping mall on the south side that is a sometimes home to a panther truck.

You also have a walmart at 96 and middlebelt and across from there is a complex with lots of parking and a home depot/cosco. I would not want to stay at the walmart due to security problems.

Yeah... maybe IKEA isn't a great idea. But I thought a van waiting for a load, it's a large parking lot in a decent area.

Wait a minute! Greg... you calling me nuts??? I find that offensive! Scuse me while I makes some meatball cereal :9

No I never called you nuts, only thought you were;) (you know I am just kidding?)

We went to IKEA the other day before it opened and the parking lot had a lot of cars already there so we left. On the other hand, last time I was in Chicago, I sat in the IKEA lot for three hours after it opened with hardly any cars in the lot and had lunch there with no crowds.

I remember when the Canton store opened and how the news crews were all over the place filming things and even Channel 4 had special reports through the day - it was like the Pope landed in the parking lot or JFK came back to life there. Well it is rather sad that an entire area goes off the deep end over a retailer.

Lousy T/S, dirty restrooms so shower probably no better, but they have van parking for overnite at the corner of Ecourse and Inkster. The omelets and home fries at the attached "Grandma's Kitchen" are among the best in Detroit.

That's the MADCO, Terry. Ppl generally leave you alone. I haven't been bugged by buggers, I mean beggars; tho I only live 3 miles from there. Right down the street from Airport Park and Harrison Rd. Don't get the truck wash there, tho. As cheap as it is, they don't wash the rear of the truck. I don't mind their garage tho. I haven't been jipped there for an oil change.

Prof:

I grew up just down the road at Belleville (not Bellview as mentioned by someone else) and although I have not lived there for many years my wife and I sometimes park our D unit in the Wal-Mart just north of I-94 on Belleville Road (mile marker 190). There are also some places to eat at that same exit. It is a much nicer area than the others that have been mentioned. Good luck.. :) :) :)
