Panther vs FedEx Custom Critical

After posting about me leaving FedEx as a driver to go see how Panther is. I seen alot of posts about Panther vs FedEx Custom Critical. Being the son of a 40 year truck O/O. I seen my father work hard over the years and asked him what is the best company he worked for. My father told me that no company is better than the other, we all do the SAME JOB and that is move freight. He told me really the company gets the freight for you but you are still the same person that picked it up for Panther or FedEx. So really your the person that the customers see's. Did you change? Nope, just the company you was leased too.

Now I know all of us take pride in the job we do, so it really don't matter what company is better. Are you going to be a better driver at FedEx or Panther? Nope your going to do the best job you can no matter what company your on with.

Dave your right on that last Nov 9 TVAL Trucks turned down a load to go through an Ice Storm in Ct to do a load from NH to NY.

Even though I never got what was promised in the deal, However the company and the People at the shipper found out who the Real deal was. (Who they could count on and it sure wasnt the 9 other trucks)

Dave The above was a good post and I agree with you.

Simply the Best, Better than all the rest.

Thanks Iceroadtrucker.

My father loved driving truck and died getting out of his D-unit Dec 31, 2001. I never understood why he loved it so much until I started driving over the road in 1995. This job is not for everyone, but when you get it in your blood it hard to stay away.

I've always said most companies are good and every company has warts. The key is finding the one with the most tolerable warts. That's the best company for that one individual. It won't be best for everyone else. You are right that folks need to do their best no matter where they are or what business they are in. That makes as much difference as anything else.

Yep, they all have problems in one way or another. It all depends on the person you ask.

You are right. I will take pride in the work I do regardless of the carrier I am with. Thus, I base my carrier choice on the factors that differentiate one carrier from another. Depending on what you are in the business to achieve, the factors to be considered will vary from person to person. For one person, a particluar carrier is the ideal choice. For another, the same carrier may be a terrible choice.

Know yourself. Know the carriers. Choose wisely.

I've only been driving for Panther since 2006, but like mentioned earlier I can't explain why I like driving my van. I just do it. I couldn't find myself working in another factory again or stocking shelves at WalMart. I've already done all these jobs. I find it more rewarding to know that I am counted on to get goods from point A to point B. I guess it's those moments where you find yourself looking at the sunset just before the light dims out with the radio off.

Ive had trucks on with three expedite companies.Where I am suits me more than the others, may not suit anyone else. The grass isnt greener,no one company is any better than any other. Its up to the customer how busy each company is.Many things can determine who the customer might go with, anything from price to availability,to on time service

Yep....I was with my 1st carrier just over 3 years....then the warts started to change....they did not suit my needs any more....so rather then whine and stomp....I changed carriers...
I planned my change and did not miss a paycheck...

I do have to admit I was impressed at the smoothness of his transaction-with such class, thoughfulness, the mindset of his thinking-it was almost scary to a point.Such a good negotiator, I thought we should form an Expeditors union with the OVM as our representative.....

Changing carriers should be done before the anger sets in..it should not get that far.....way too many of us get personal with our respective carriers as in we chat about family and yada, yada...at that point the business aspect diminishes...
I changed not out of anger or vindictiveness...strictly a business decision...I terminated my contract because I felt they were not appropriate for my future any longer...
And I am quite positive if I did not suit the carriers expectations they would have done the same...

Ken, I gotta give you credit for that one. You made a business decision, and changed without a 2 page monologue on how horrible your ex was!

That's the right way, and I hope it works out great!

My experience with Panther is to many years ago,but in my opinion, the company I'm with now is the best for me.In the changing of times or our present economy,I'm enjoying working with this smaller company very much.FDCC is a very good company, and you can make a very good living there, but, being a big surprize to me,Tri-State is putting more money in my bank account than FDCC ever did. The best part,my sitting around waiting for a load is very minimal

Glad you are doing well Steve. As I eluded to in another thread, some get pigeon-holed into that myth that a high income can only be achieved at one place. Might have been a valid argument over 10 years ago, but as you and many other found out, that is not the reality any more.
