I would first like to say that this site is just great, i was able to find out a lot of good information on here just searching, plus most of the people have been more then helpful with all of their knowledge and wisdom!

I was wondering if anyone knows about Panthers policy as far as O/O and if they allow them to have their own authority and still be leased on with Panther.

My other question is if Panther's systems work like Landstar as far as being able to find and pick your own loads on their database or do they call you up like regular dispatch and offer you the load that is available to you as the next in line?

Call Panther in the morning and get an answer straight from the two headed cat's mouths.

Panther calls this their backhaul program. Most drivers use this to get out of a slow area. Panther takes, I believe, 15% off the top for loads you find. All other loads are procured and dispatched by Panther. Nothing at all like Landstar.

Yes, exactly. You will not get access to the loads in Panther's database in order to be able to pick and choose. All you can do is accept or reject a load offer when the phone rings and the QC beeps. As Moot said, you can find your own loads, but they must be OK'd by Panther and be booked through their system in order for them to collect the line haul for you. The 15% is for that service, as well as being able to run under their authority and insurance.
