Panther Bought Conway Now??

I got a phone call this morning from a friend that has trucks leased on with Conway Now. He told me that one of his drivers called him this morning to inform him that Conway Now was bought out by Panther as of midnight.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

We are leased on with Panther and my husband just called me and said a QC message just went out that Panther bought Conway Now. So I guess you are correct.

We just got the QC message, it's official. P2 bought Con-Way Now. The message was from Sokolowski(CEO) so I'll believe it. I guess this means that alot of trucks will need new signs.

I went to the Conway-Now website and it is official. There is a letter Con-way sent to their customers and also a letter from Panther.

This is true we just spent an hour with them on the phone asking any and everything we could think of. So far we like what we're hearing. We have a C unit and havn't been geeting many loads of late so maybe some change was due. They did tell us that if the entire fleet stays with panther it will bring the total up to 1600 trucks. Good luck to everyone weither they stay on or move on.

You are right. Go to Panther's sign up site and click. They have a letter posted on the site to all contractors.

Just got the info on the QC a couple of minutes ago. Is it a good thing or not, only time will tell.

Should be a good thing. One less competitor, more coverage and more customers. I don't really see a downside.

Not sure how this will affect me as a partner carrier with both (E loads), but I'm sure glad I have a good relationship with both companies!

Dave, I just noticed that you have been with Panther for 22 years. I have been working with them this past year and really like their organization and how they handle their loads online. Much simpler for me than trying to do check calls into Con-Way. Not to mention Panther pays us MUCH quicker than Conway. I see good things and hopefully more freight for us with Panther.

I haven't been with Panther the whole 22 years, but I look forward to the new aquisition. That will bring their fleet up to 1900 trucks.
That is alot of leverage on larger accounts because of their coverage.
I don't believe this will be the last aquisition either.

Did Panther ever do that IPO offering. I think they were trying to raise $250 million, perhaps they did this to buy Conway. Now will FEDEXCC stay the same or will they look to buy Tri State or some other carrier. With the purchase of Watkins which is primarily a long haul carrier, I see many loads that would have gone on FEDEXCC being diverted to Watkins , with Custom Critical being a feeder and final delivery network.

We have been hearing that UPS is looking to aquire a company and get into the expedite game. They have already bought out Overnite. Anybody else heard anything?

I think you are right Rich. Fedex has said they are pursuing the LTL market. Panther seems to be concentrating on exclusive use shipments.

I just got THE PHONE CALL. Guess I'm getting cats on the side of my van. And I was looking forward to the new Con-Way colors. So it goes.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but four cats do?

Didn't Con-Way Now just recently change their name to Con-Way Expedite? or is that a different division? Why bother going through all the problems changing your name and THEN selling it? Am I missing something.

I see it as a good thing. The one thing that's curious to me is it happened so soon after ConWay changed to much nicer markings for their logo. It will be interesting to see who's next because I don't think it's going to stop with ConWay.

You aren't missing anything. It was a corporate decision to change the name. Con-Way Now or Con-Way Expedite is or was just one of many companies under the Con-Way corporate umbrella. All were effected by the name change. But this one got sold.

Just had these put on the new van on Wednesday. Pictures were taken, Potter grinned and gushed, everyone rejoyced. And so it goes...
