Canada PacEx not an equal opportunity company

I have been working for Pacex out of Hamilton Ontario for couple of years in the start I was told my truck is too small so they can't send me to all their customers bla bla bla I bought it and went out and purchased a bigger truck just to find out no matter what size truck I buy it is the color of my skin that's the problem:mad:.

PacEx is probably the only company on the planet where Parttime drivers are given jobs before full timers are called out usually when part timers are ready to go home:confused: during rush hours between GTA and Hamilton areas only selected drivers are given jobs.

I have moved on just posting this so other owner operators are aware of this

Of course nobody can know the 'real' reasons Shah, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but don't be too quick to pin something on the color of one's skin, or any other number of perceived prejudicial factors.
You can see from the posts on EO that probably every driver has occasion to wonder at times why they are or aren't considered for a particular load. They don't always know the reasons and neither will you.
Aside from the obvious, like size of truck, there are just sooooo many factors. Even if it was truly just 'you' in particular that was being passed over in favor of someone else with different colored skin, it may not have been the skin that was the issue.
There are lots and lots of drivers who have things going against them, and many of them probably don't even know it. If someone has a bad attitude for example, they don't necessarily know it. If they have poor communication skills or language barriers that pose problems with customers, they may not know it. The condition of their truck, hygiene, driving habits, lack of desired equipment, the list goes on. Does a guy who's really dirty 'know' that others perceive him as really dirty? Who knows?
And then there is that age old issue of punishment for turning down loads, which dispatchers may not ever admit to... translated to 'favoritism' for whatever reason.

Did you try bringing cheesecake?

Not to 'diss' anyone here who isn't white-anglo-whatever, but I hate it when members of minority groups pin rotten stuff that happens to them on their minority. Trust me when I say that rotten things happen to white-anglo-whatever people too.

you make Valid points all of them, but I didn't come to this conclusion within a week or two it's been a struggle from day1. As far as equipment is concerned my truck is 2008 freightliner other than me newest truck in there fleet is 2002 and older.

wow wow wow before you go one thinking I have a problem with blue white or purple people just to let you no one of my best friends noticed this and told me to complain about it as I was reluctant to make this an issue after my complaining to the owner's things got better, but just for few days as soon as the dust settled back to the same routine again so he quit in protest and he is white.

I am currently employed by a very good company out of Mississauga Ontario and have received numerous awards +rewards from customers and owners together one is for delivering on time And yes everybody in management is White only difference between this and Pacex is owners here care and you are rewarded by the management for keeping customers happy.

Thank you for elaborating. To me, that is disgusting behavior and you should file a case with the human rights commission.

I used to run into PacEx drivers of all shapes and colors, and never heard it was that way. And really...if someone in trucking in the GTA has a "color" problem they are not going to last long.

I know a guy who was running for Pacex and he liked it there. He was in a van and had some nice runs so I can't see size of buggy being an issue. Haven't heard of colour of skin being a problem either. But then there is some reason.

Now Piper you haven't been into some of the newer outfits around the GTA lately but several are quite colour and language restrictive (brown and speak Punjabi or Hindi). I know it is bad to speak about racism but they are kind of as they won't hire others. I do know of one company that has an Indian (east indian) dispatcher and he won't deal with anyone who can't communicate in english.

Discrimination based on someones nationality is wrong, wanting to hire workers who can communicate in an industry that requires a lot of communication is just smart business. One of the rules for being allowed to legally immigrate to Canada is to learn either English or French, it is a legal requirement if you want to drive in the US, which PacEx does.

I think there is more to the OP's story here, my guess is communication skills were not the issue. As hard as it is to find good operators in the GTA I cant imagine any company being successful (and PacEx is) turning away anyone good. Sometimes people just don't fit in with a company, they get fired, and they look for any excuse beyond their own poor performance or fit to deal with the situation.

I lived in the Creek on the mountain up on Paramount Dr..Pacex was in my zone...I had no clue what expediting was...kinda fell into it...they treated me well and the money was great, but anything cross border was one way freight but the rate paid well enough to cover it...guess I got itchy feet and went to Dynamex which Shannon had a hate on for, so I got dinged for my final run as retribution...a woman scorned? *LOL*

Her brother Shawn was also great...and Doug kept me moving around the GTA because I was raised in TO and I knew how to get around quicker then most...

successful yeah :D

This company has been around for a very long time and when I left a year ago they had one just one TT unit on the road most TT owners left Month or two after starting with them that should shed some light on there success.

Good operators that can see that they are being abused usually leave also known as quit they don't sit around and waste their time and move on.

If you think what I am saying is a just a made up story you are welcome to your opinion my job was to inform others of this situation so I did .

I did not want to make this about me, but I see I have no choice so here it goes I was born in 1968 Manchester England immigrated to Canada in 1970 grew up in Hamilton did my BSC from McMaster.

Got into trucking as a part-time relief driver for coca cola loved the freedom +money was great that was back in 1994 long before everybody decided to become a trucker.
