So who went to the driver appreciation picnic at Panther on Wednesday? I went and had a pretty good time. I did not win any prizes. Sure wanted to win one of the fuel cards they gave away.
I did not add them up but there were at least 10 or 15 thousand dollars worth.

These appreciation events and picnics are all well and fine..but it's just cheap attaboys tossed around to make the admin feel better for how they treat us contractors during the year.
Why not just hand out $50.00 fuel cards to those with one year of service and say $100.00 for 2 -5yrs. and $500.00 for 5 or more...and maybe some special recognitions...and they can keep the cheap hot dogs and sodas' In this day and age Attaboys come cheap, but I say "show me the money"

Well I see it more as a company picnic type of thing. There were plenty of people there and it did allow for drivers to meet and greet a lot of the office people, along with the Founder, and Andrew Clark, Jeff St. P, Adam Walter, and a host of Dispatchers.

Besides OVM it sure beats a sharp stick in the eye.

Heck... Cal gives all the contractors at C&M an Outback giftcard every year. I'd rather have that, than a $50 fuel card, any day.

Well we were there at the picnic nd I do say it was a nice day. It's not always about what you can GET from the company. IT was nice to hang out and meet some of the people youj talk to everyday on the phone. Nice to put faces with names. Also nice to get a chance to dunk the VP St. Pierre.
The prizes were just an added bonus. I did win a $40 walmart gift card. The food was good and the vendors were all very informative.

Met a lot of nice drivers as well. Thanks to Panther for doing this every year for us!

i wish they gave some sort of rewards to all whom drive for panther........
im NOT an owner..... but i been with panther for 3 yrs
at the start i heard about bonus $$ if u got a driver hired on to panther and they stayed ...... soo i got a bunch of referal cards and started promoting... and spreading the word......... then come to find out.. ...... it was only a bonus for owners.....
*sigh* ....... so i quit promoting.
i have a pretty good good percent rating too ..... i have average of 100% most the time ... of being on time... acceptance .. in service...
but i dont get any kind of reconigtion for that either....

I was with a LTL company that was into the awards thing in a big way. Pins and patches for safe working and safe driving; attaboy certificates for no sick days and other types of worthless junk. I did receive a gold bracelet Bulova watch, complete with company logo on the face for 10 years safe driving. A bit too blingy for my tastes. Didn't wear it much and I still have it in a drawer somewhere.

I prefer a more tangible form of recognition. When I was with Con-Way Now after 5 years I got 1/2 percent raise on my cut. That was nice! In 2004 I bought a new van. I suggested that they waive the QC installation fee since I was upgrading my equipment to better serve the customer. That didn't fly!

Being that I am an owner I think I will reward my best driver by giving him all of next week off. I'm even footing the bill.

My best driver is ME! And I am my best driver mostly because I am my only driver. It's lonely at the top.

Talk to your fleet owner about a rewards program. I would think that fleet owners would like to reward safety and longevity. Of course the longer you have been with an owner the chances are that you would be driving a newer and nicer truck. That in it self is a reward.

Hay MOOT: That was a great idea on the QC install. Too bad your company didn't see things your way. That would be a small cost to the companies compared to turnover. You are puting out many thousands and they could eat the install for owners that stay for the long run.

I "tried" to go to the Panther picnic....I was at the Pilot station as Panther stated there was "supposed" to be a limo driver picking up people at the Pilot station and at the TA truck stop. He was only going to the TA truck stop and picking up people. There was 20 or so of us waiting almost 2 hours and still no driver at the Pilot station. He kept going to the TA, where the front lot was full of vans and there was no more parking available. I was told there was no parking at seville office, so after waiting for 2 hours and noone showed up at the Pilot, I went home. The limo driver for some reaon was refusing to go to the Pilot.....not sure what was going on there.....
