Well I see it more as a company picnic type of thing. There were plenty of people there and it did allow for drivers to meet and greet a lot of the office people, along with the Founder, and Andrew Clark, Jeff St. P, Adam Walter, and a host of Dispatchers.
Besides OVM it sure beats a sharp stick in the eye.
I was with a LTL company that was into the awards thing in a big way. Pins and patches for safe working and safe driving; attaboy certificates for no sick days and other types of worthless junk. I did receive a gold bracelet Bulova watch, complete with company logo on the face for 10 years safe driving. A bit too blingy for my tastes. Didn't wear it much and I still have it in a drawer somewhere.
I prefer a more tangible form of recognition. When I was with Con-Way Now after 5 years I got 1/2 percent raise on my cut. That was nice! In 2004 I bought a new van. I suggested that they waive the QC installation fee since I was upgrading my equipment to better serve the customer. That didn't fly!
Being that I am an owner I think I will reward my best driver by giving him all of next week off. I'm even footing the bill.
thats kewl........
My best driver is ME! And I am my best driver mostly because I am my only driver. It's lonely at the top.
Talk to your fleet owner about a rewards program. I would think that fleet owners would like to reward safety and longevity. Of course the longer you have been with an owner the chances are that you would be driving a newer and nicer truck. That in it self is a reward.
"Waaa the company didn't give me a gift WAAAAAA" Stop whining and get to work....by the way my driver got a 1500 dollar fuel card
