well my wife and i gave it a try for a little over a month with E-1 and went in the hole driving for a fleet owner. the first 2 weeks were pretty good going to ca. from chicago and san diego back to detroit mi. then ohio to dallas then shreveport to laredo and back to detroit. then came all the short runs that didnt require team drivers. we done all the little shorties that everyone turned down and were on time and early to everything we did.so let me say more power to all of you who do this and good luck to all but if i aint making enough money to pay the very few bills i got i aint sticking around. i do feel like someone at E1 was (pizzin) in my cornflakes and its not the load planners.anyway i was looking for a change in carriers to better myself and ended up taking a big cut in pay.dont get me wrong cause i enjoyed the short time that i done it and hated that it turned out the way it did. i am surprised how no one from E1 has called to find out why we left. good luck ta ya all and ill see you on the road if ya aint sittin. cdl team in a non cdl ST.8100 lbs. max (might have been a problem too)???????

Unfortunately you went to E-1 at a very bad time...they just finished recruiting a whack of trucks in a short time period which prolly caused an overage situation till they could be absorbed....I wish carriers could understand that while we understand that a company wants to grow and expand THEY have to also understand that WE can NOT afford to wait it out till the absorbtion takes effect!

The owner of the truck had to have known this fact as I just a regular peon knew of it...

Looks to be you ran alot of miles for a short time.....

Did the owner pass on any of the mileage bonus bucks they get...
as a performance bonus to help YOU out?

If not then ask your owner why not.

Good Luck

I was just re-reading your post...you seemed quite busy and you still need more?
Do you think teams just run team runs?

OVM, that is the problem with the carriers. They don't realize or care what our costs are when sitting, they just want a truck in every town to service their customers. It doesn't cost them to put on more trucks and then they have better service for the customers. If the carriers had something to lose then they would be more concerned. With that being said, since my carrier wasn't keeping me busy, I now haul for two other companies also. Seems to be working out just fine. If my carrier kept me busy I wouldn't need to do this. Needless to say, I've been busy the past three weeks and am actually making money.

Sounds like you took the Col's advice and looked outside the box for load opportunities..:D

On that note...Last year E-1 revised their finding your own load policy and dropped their take to 15% after the straight truck drivers whined and complained...to this date not one has found their own loads!!

Go Figure...they prefer to sit and complain....My carrier doesn't keep me busy and do NOTHING to help themselves out!!

Express-1 is about as professional of a company as they come! I would recommend the big red E to anyone. The only problem with E-1 is that they got all hyped up over Septembers surge in business, had to broker out a few loads, and decided to go on a hiring spree. Then the "cash for clunkers" surge died back down and freight levels "although higher than they were in January of this year" dropped some and the sitting soon followed.:p

Yes, I am learning, I have to say this site is a wealth of knowledge, plus talking to quite a few drivers in this industry and taking their advice helps alot. Not sure how all the carriers work but I am allowed to use my truck for whatever I please according to my lease. Hmmm, maybe not whatever I please. I think Ceva might have trouble with me hauling illegals or having chrome nekkid lady mudflaps on my truck.
