I would be willing to bet I can match your Deadhead or exceed it or anyone else on this forum. Heck I might even put it up against anyone in the industry. )Well except for Fastman of course, as he has been at it longer and with the same company longer then me.) Without pulling out the log book its fair to say our deadhead is getting stupid. Sometimes exceeds 50% on some offers, and 8 out of 10 offers are to pick up in a different state then where I'm sitting. With .50 cents paid after giving up 50 miles its not worth running those load offers. After turning down offers its a safe bet your better off just heading home because they won't look any farther. Take a long deadhead and the chance of wrong address/canceled load not being paid anymore it just isn't worth taking the chance. Near 50% deadhead leaves nothing on the other end of the load especially if your dead heading towards the drop.

Lol...Good challenge!

I know there are more drivers that did more DH than admitted.

DH by percentage or miles? May be pick the best year out of the last 5 years, to be fair.

The confessional is now open. Lol..

I used to put the dead in deadhead. Go on all sorts of load from short to real long but most of the time was working my way back home. Sometimes get a load back near home or in the direction of. Then drive back home. Just didn't like to stay out on the road away from home. I'm sure I lost out on quite a bit of money too but needed the continuity of home time. My home is in a good location for loads so i usually didn't have to wait long for another load. Drive local now. Dead head back home. :D

My last 2 carriers I was averaging about 1,000 (from Chicago) (800 from KC)to get home and minimum 500 to get back out everytime I wanted to be home....My newest carrier has reduced that significiently due to more personal attention ( smaller carrier )

I believe 15-20% is the number often quoted for industry norm for DH

There are a few of us veterans with aging equipment trying to make them look and last a few more miles...the prospect of investing 40-50K in a new van is just well ....nuts...unless someone has a 2nd and 3rd income working spouse/pension, more money then brains, The downward pressure on rates is ongoing as carriers struggle to make their own profit margins at our expense...the bottom is quickly coming up at these carriers. They've stripped our bottomline dry and yes the carriers have to take some blame here as most of them are brokerages as well and we know they are reselling loads at below a living rate.
I hope the bottom comes up at some carriers/brokers so fast it breaks their bank accounts!!
