Isn't that number 850,026? Seriously though, everyone who isn't a member needs to join. They are the only group working on our behalf and everyone should support them as they do us.

Seriously now, tell me exactly what they have done so far to help us, like for example, the HOS issue and I might consider it. I mean RESULTS, not a dance down the primrose path.

Look at the speed limiter petition - over 1300 responses . Supporters are outnumbering opponents about 8:1 which means Road Safe America is a lot better than organizing people than OOIDA is . One problem though . The people supporting Road Safe America have never read the request for comments . Road Safe America is faxing around a link to go directly to the comment section . I let my OOIDA membership expire . They sent me a card offering to deduct $5 off the $45 renewal fee . How about deducting $20 ? No , thank you ?

Seriously now, they are the only organization attempting to fight the HOS and get sensible rules in place. THE REASON THEY DON'T GET MORE DONE IS BECAUSE OF ALL THE WHINERS THAT ARE TOO CHEAP TO JOIN AND STICK WITH THEM THROUGH ALL THE FIGHTS AND CAN ONLY ASK WHAT HAVE THEY DONE FOR "ME". YES, I'M YELLING! AT LEAST THEY ARE OUT THERE WORKING. IF THEY HAD MORE MEMBERS THEY'D BE GETTING MORE DONE. LEGISLATORS LISTEN MORE TO MILLION MEMBER GROUPS. THEY DO WHAT THEY CAN WITH WHAT THEY HAVE TO WORK WITH. MORE MEMBERS = MORE RESULTS.

I think SOMEBODY needs to read this again and respond to it . Please list OOIDA's accomplishments . I mean on their own , not going along with something ATA is also going after . It was pretty ignorant of OOIDA to publicly critcize NHTSA for requesting comments on the speed limiter petition . Out of over 1300 responses less than 20 have been relevant to the 9 questions NHTSA asked . Relevant answers to those questions would show the petition should be denied . The hot fuel issue ? Listen , you know what you pay for fuel and the results you get . Buy accordingly . OOIDA is just going to get the price raised paying for the equipment to compensate for temperature and there aren't enough inspectors to assure their accuracy . I quit OOIDA because they were useless for services I needed like full liability insurance in KY . They overcharge on most other services . They antagonize everyone they deal with and that is why they come out losing so often .

I am a long time member of ooida, they have there good points and bad as all organizations do,so ill keep paying my dues, but there is one thing I do know
years back there was a sign in every truck stop to call you senator or congressman and explain why the radar detector should not be banned in a truck,so that year every truck driver you talked to said they made the call, and as I also did,you gave your name and where you lived.well from that, our elected officials determined that most of the truck drivers in this country dont vote,so guess what, good by radar detector
with the number of truck drivers in this country,if we all stood together, many issues would change, this ooida is trying but, they say they need more members,we can do this without ooida, and I dont mean strike, all strike does is make people mad,we have enough haters
ooida says run comliant, next time you see ooida sticker on a 75 mph truck running thru ohio, call ooida and ask about compliant
all it takes is we all run legal, and we can get what we want
you run legal and the 14 hour rule will be changed, when consignees are backed up with trucks that have to sit for 10 hours, what do you think will happen,or shippers yards are full cause these legal trucks ran out of there 14 hours, and freight is now 10 hours behind.
when you have the shippers and consignees involved, something will happen, and yes slow those speeds down,I'm running 60 mph in most cases,7.5 mpg much better than 6 mpg I get at 70

Maybe most truckers don't vote and that could be part of the problem . Few people realize when the contact repesentatives that office checks to see if you are a registered voter . If a lot of truckers write in and few are registered how much support are they going to get ? I may be in the minority but I like the 14 hour rule just the way it was . If I start at 7 a.m. , I'm ready to stop at 9 p.m. . I don't want to start at 7 , find out at 8 I have to wait 4 hours for a load , then be told to go in the sleeper for 4 hours and be expected to run until 1 a.m. . The whole HOS is ridiculous anyway . Many times after I take a 10 hour break I sit in rush hour traffic when I was rested enough after 7 hours and could have run through before the rush saving fuel and not adding to the congestion .
