One week old Newbie

After one week on the road, B unit with Panther II, I compared my performance with my original business plan:
1. Don't get killed.
2. Don't get hurt.
3. Make more money than I spend.
4. Try to learn something every day.
5. Don't piss off my wife.

Four outta five ain't bad. I didn't get killed or hurt. I made some money, but spent more on the new Garmin GPS unit. Garmin unit WELL worth the $$. I learned something new every day, because each day is different. Didn't piss off my wife until AFTER I returned home. She didn't understand why I wanted to do nuthing but sleep on the living room floor all evening.

Thanks. :+ :+

Glad to hear things went well for your first week. Also glad to hear you stood your ground with the misses. She'll learn sooner or later, that when you come home, you need your rest. It took mine about 3 weeks to learn that I wasn't going to let her push me around! (Sure hope she doesn't read this). :7

Yeah, but it's when they grab hold and drag you that it really hurts and you didn't mention breaking her of that habit yet. :+

theoldprof, glad to hear you are off to a good start. You'll be learning new stuff all the time and hopefully none of the lessons will be hard knock university curriculum. Take your time and watch out for yourself. Safe and alive is more important than on time no matter what dispatch tells you. Good luck.

That was your problem, Go home take her to bed have a good time than you can sleep all you want. Do not sleep on the sopha she will never understand unless its a bad football game or if Jeff Gordon won, than its boring....

Let me commend you on getting started. More importantly let me say, all the business plan talk on here and you laid it out better than anyone else. Damn it driver! I got a good laugh outta that.

Best of luck to ya! Let me give you some big advice. It aint that big a deal. You will either succeed or ya wont. That is a simple measure you can use to monitor your progress.

Thanks, everybody.

Now that I am an owner operator for a week, I am an expert. Some advice for the less than week-old newbies and wannabees: This is for cargo van people. Get all the stuff you absolutely MUST carry in your van. Now, take half of that and leave it at home.

I wear T shirts. Something I learned, and learned real fast is to take one clean T shirt, one pair undies, and one pair of sox and roll them up and wrap them with a rubber band. That way when you get ready to shower just grab a bundle, grab your shower stuff and you are ready. The first few days I was scrounging through one plastic tub for a shirt, go deeper for shorts, and dig deeper yet for sox.
