One of my dumb moves

Cleaning those windows yeah this was smart after I did it.

Warning do not wash your side windows with the water in the pails or squeegee in it.

Someone must have washed their fuel tanks off with the applicator. I have had grease on my entire side windows everytime I roll them down. At night time you cannot hardly see out them, it gets even better when its foggy.

Had to use an all purpose aerosol spray the felt fabric and window roll up and down wipe window off each time to lift the grease or what ever and than continue doing it with amonia a couple more times.

Lesson Learned paper towel with window cleaner.

Sound like you wouldn't want to wash the windshield with that squeegee and bucket either . Better to carry your own squeegee ?

Never affected the windshield as the squeegee cleaned the glass, but all the liquid being pushed down than resting on the felt well the felt absorbed it and stored it for me. Got sick and tired of not being able to see clearly.

I am a believer you can only carry so much stuff with ya. The list can go on and on, like the post regarding a pump to pull oil out to get an oil analysis. When is enough enough?

Great idea, but its a truck not a garage. Weight becomes a factor let alone (where did I put XYZ?) I almost need a book to remember where I left what some times.

Had same problem! Picked up a small bottle of Dawn Dishwashing detergent at the Dollar Store, Put a few drops on the scrubber side of the window washer thingy and it works very well.Gets rid of all the road film and bugs, Have had same $1.00 bottle for at least 6 months and it takes up minimal room. Hope this helps

What I do is take a bottle of windex (or similar cleaner)
and spray down the windshield before I begin to fuel...
let it soak in while you fuel...
check it and maybe spray it again while fueling.

I have my own squeegee that I carry and it's the telescoping kind you get at Wal-Mart.
Great for tall windows/windshields!!!
Those telescoping squeegee's are also handy if there's ice/snow out and you don't want to risk climbing on your truck.

Hit it with your squeegee to make sure the entire windshield is covered good with the cleaner. and give it a good spray again.
Particularly in your line of sight, and within your wiper sweep.
How do you shake out a squeegee? just swing it thru the air to get the access moisture out of it.

I keep the sponge end in a baggy, to protect it and keep it from gettin' anything dirty or slightly wet. it fits well behind the passenger seat or on the passenger side. Once or twice a week I find a water nozzle somewhere that I can use to clean the sponge out with fresh water.

This way I can be fueling, and cleaning my windshield at the same time. What also helps is a few "drops" (not cups) of simple dish detergent in your washer resevoir, as explained above, it's a degreaser and gentle on paint.

Wooo one my pet pevees! CLEAN WINDOWS! Do NOT use dish cleaner, Do NOT use windex, Do NOT use Alchol!!!! All these products will screw up your windows. The best product? Invisiable glass. Comes in a spray can. You can buy it at wal-mart. Stuff does not streak and cleans great. Also do not use anything with lint in it to clean them - use Newspaper, crumbled into a ball. Clean side to side and up to down, not circles. I've rung peoples neck for messing with my windows, when I'm done with them you might think there is no glass there.

Yep, I made that same mistake many moons ago. In my case a small piece of metal was lodged in the squeegie, and scratched my windshield. Every now and then I see some donkey with a fuel island squeegie cleaning their fuel tank or ??- not what you want on your glass. If you care, definitely best to bring your own glass cleaning items with you. Mudflap

Pet peeve is right. Clean windows are one of mine. Never use dish washing liquid, anything with ammonia or alcohol.

Either Stoner's Invisible Glass or Sprayway Glass Cleaner (SWP50) and you'll never use the blue stuff again. I buy Sprayway by the case. Sprayway can also be found at Safelite Auto Glass shops under their ProGrip label.

Ammoniated cleaners, like Windex, will eat away at the weather stripping. It will also turn tinted windows purple. :) If used inside the vehicle it is harmful to most all of the interior surfaces, like leather, rubber, vinyl, plastics. Ammonia may be great for the home, not so great for the vehicle. The trapped fumes inside the vehicle isn't so good for your health, either. Besides, ammonia will streak.

Dish washing liquid on a windshield will cause it to eventually pit at the microscopic level, resulting in a windshield that you can never quite seem to get clean. It will also damage the paint's finish. If you want to use soap, use car wash soap.

Unless the alcohol is denatured alcohol, you'll have the same pitting problem. A 1/3 mix of distilled water, denatured alcohol and distilled vinegar makes a very effective cleaner, if you can take the vinegar smell.

Newspaper works very well, if you can handle the black hands when yer done. The newsprint ink acts as a polishing agent, too. I use microfiber towels, usually a waffle weave type, or surgical rags, or diapers. :)

Sprayway also makes some absolutely killer hand towels, a big tub o hand wipes kinda thing, also available from Safelite, that is a wonderful all purpose towel, but one of it's really nifty uses is it's the best bug and tar scrubber-remover I've seen. 9.5" x 12" in size. If you get paint splattered on your vehicle, use their Industrial Strength towels.

Not necessarily advocating that anything be purchased from here, even though this is where I get mine, but this will let you see what I'm talking about.

Ever put those products to the test in Love Bug Season in the South East??? I'd be real curious to see how they hold up to that abuse.

I do carry my own squeegee, that way - like it was mentioned above... one doesn't have to worry about diesel juices or metal particles in the sponges.

I here what your sayen,

I seen a person wash his whole tractor at the fuel island
with one of those squeegie things.

Then the person take what appeared to be the whole roll of paper tolls and towled off the truck.

Hmm could have been that person

If they drive a Silver Coranado you got the person.
