OMG a ....skunk?

Heyas all... this isn't aboot seeing a skunk flat on the side of the road, or seeing one spraying your dog... yet.

(Can say aboot and such as i'm part Canadian... ^^ )

... It's simply a hello from a driver new to these parts.

I was webbing from another site, searching around for driver websites that used Sprinter and regular vans for work, and I shambled over to here, to take a peek at what was going on here.

I did place an ad in the 'Driver Available' area looking for a hopeful bite.

Have been driving CDL since 2004, have Haz and Tank endorsements, and a knack for driving. Driven everything from tankers, refers, vans, straights, tri-axle dumps (I now drive currently) and even the blocky armored cars in 1999.

I'm now in process of starting for a Driveaway company, but if the pay here in expediting is better than Driveaway, I will jump to here. BTW, Driveaway is when you drive a semi tractor from one place to drop off at another, and paid at .30 a mile, with all expenses paid, along with lodging and fuel, and .20 on top of that for your towcar, to go from truck to truck.)

Ive driven Volvo's (loved 'em) Internationals, Freightshakers, Macks, and even a Brockway as my first job.:p

What currently has me looking here on this site is ads for new drivers, and mebee starting as an owner operator in time, after getting my paws wet in the business. (Not from THAT, I'm Housebroken. ;P)

I will look into buying a van later, maybe a Chevy, Ford, or a Sprinter, as long as I can haul smartly, and be paid fairly.

Therefore I ask these questions...
I do have experience in driving all kinds of CDL trucks, for 100's of miles a day, would driving as an expediter be a lot different?

I would 'like' to start with my own van LATER, maybe within a year after getting comfy in what I learn now. What would be the best plan for getting insurance, DOT #'s and such before looking for a truck?

And lastly, what kind of truck would be best for hauling?
Ford, Chevy, Sprinter, or maybe a dual wheeled box truck?
Specifics? List choices, with pro's and cons?

I have been reading a LOT in the Newbie forums, and was impressed with everyone here so far.

Thank you...

You will make more in drive away than you would running someone else's van. The industry you are in right now is getting ready to start moving as truck orders are up and companies start selling and buying used equipment. You can do pretty well as an O/O but there is a learning curve when you come out of the trucking industry as you would and I did. You really have to learn to be more patient and be ready to drive less but make more per mile. I get pretty antsy when sitting for more than a day but when I put all the numbers down on paper it makes it easier.

No luck?

Ever been to Tucson or Tucumcari?

Driveaway is more than delivering a tractor. The driveaway industry includes driving all types of trucks, buses, motorhomes etc. It also includes the delivery of new semi trailers and RV trailers.

Way cool on the Brockway! Not many people can claim to have driven a Brockway. Cabover or conventional? I'm an old Mack guy and would love a chance to drive a Brockway, just because.

Therefore I ask these questions...

Do some more research.
