On July 16 me and 5 other cargo van drivers from Panter, Bolt, FedEx, Allstate, sat there 3 days. Let me tell u,,not one of us had a lot runs going on lately. We all got a lot of messages, but the runs did not get awarded to us. but by the 4th day we all started leaving and got loads,,thank the Lord. For the most part all the guys were happy and liked the freedom of the road. U can learn a lot from others out there like what to eat and where not to stay. Hey, but At Olive Branch Mississippi go across the street JB's bar and grill for live bands and good food and dancing. I had a good time there, go on Fri and Sat nite for sure, u wont be disappointed and Im 63 yrs young..lol Its old folks and younger ones,,see Julie the owner,,nice lady. c u there sometime ,,,Sky

when i 1st started in this business just a yr ago, one of the 1st places i spent the night was in West Memphis at the "J", now i never had a problem there but have heard the horror stories...I later heard the Olive Branch was the place to stay and have stayed once. I didn't sit there long and got a load, but i will stay there again...Thanks for the post.

Olive Branch is preferred over W. Memphis...don't usually sit there too long either....but IF you must spend a weekend better there...

While it can be fun and informative to shoot the breeze with your peers and competitors, 3 days seems excessive. Myself, after a few hours of chit-chat would press north into the bootheel for introspective reflection and load offer nirvana.

Good place to stay and there's a neat little local restaurant in town.
If you're Retired Military the Navy facility at Millington ( about 25 miles north of Memphis) is a decent place to stay and it's real secure.

I try to go to Olive Branch or Earle depending on which side of town I'm on. I don't go to W. Memphis for anything. In O.B. there's a bbq place next door that's also fairly good and reasonably priced.

A van - 4 days in a parking lot?? Divide all those hours into a Mickey d's PAYCHECK-and at least you'll be home daily with health insurance!!

BBQ!!!! i missed that my one time there, you can bet i won't the next time!!!!

I have to disagree with Leo on this being that I'm a local. I perfer to stop in at the bbq place at the Lehi exit. I can't remember which number but it's the one just before the east bound scales on the east bound side.

Tops is a pretty big chain in and around Memphis. I wish I could remember the name of the one in Lehi. Nick's in Carlisle,AR is a good place for bbq and fish.

I saw a sign when I was in Memphis for the first time. I had to turn around and pulled into the place, I can not remember where it is - "jim bobs furniture store and BBQ emporium". I heard about it once after that from another expediter but.... I can't remember where it was or is.

Corky's in Memphis is nice, not a great place to find parking for anything bigger than a van if I recall. Food was really good!

Chefdennis, if you're ever in New Bern, NC Moores BBQ on US 17. It's the BEST North Carolina style BBQ ever!!
