Older Trucks

Seems lately there has been a lot of talk about running and maintaining older trucks. We have two school of thought here, one being is to get a truck paid for and keep it well maintained and run the wheels off it. The other is run a new truck with a payment. I personally go with the first school of thought. So I thought it would be fun to see and hear about some of the older trucks members are running from EO. So anyone with a truck over 10 years old I would like see a picture ( if possible) and the basic specs of it. I'll start it off.

My truck; 1996 Ford L8000 w/ a 8.3 Cummings and 7 speed spicer with around 700000 miles on it

Well I think the better question is what type of owner you are?

One that needs a new truck because you want to treat it as a car, one that is able to handle a older one and maintain it and one that is hands on and not afraid of working. In that many owners who have older trucks don't do the PM parts thing, but wait until things break.

For the most part, one of my trucks is a 99 while the next older one is a 2001, with the remaining from 2003 to 2009. I drive the 99 and it is in OK shape, it has an 765k on the ISC 8.3, 6+1 spicer and in need of a clutch which I am getting ready to put in myself.

2002 Chev G1500 Express van. 4.3V6, 4 speed auto...

It's starting to push it's luck with me. The alt pooped the bed last night.. It's approaching 300K..

Seems there is a weekly 100 dollar bill put in to the "keep it on the road" pot.

It keeps that up and a truck payment would be less.

Have to agree with you on this Greg. Mine has a mechanical engine (no computer) and me being raised on a farm, when something breaks I get under the hood and fixit.
