Ohio Winter

Ohio Winter Poem

It's winter in Ohio

And the gentle breezes blow

Seventy miles an hour

At twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love Ohio

When the snow's up to your butt

You take a breath of winter

And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful

So I guess I'll hang around

I could never leave Ohio

'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!!

I Said it awhile back My Dad Told me long time ago if you cant drive in the Snow and on the ICE then Hang up the Keys as a fare weather driver is all youll ever be. Just remember this Respect it but dont be afarid of it. If your afarid then youll second guess and make mistakes. Use your common sense and and you will do just fine.

I wouldnt say i'm a fair weather driver, but its easier to stay home than be wrecked by a driver that doesnt respect the ice and snow.Too many guys think that running bumper to bumper at 65 mph in the snow is macho.I value my equipment more than that,I know my capabilities, its the other guy I worry about.

We heard from one of those Friday night while making a run over to Jamestown, NY and back home. We only use our CB for two things, weather and road conditions. I know I don't have to explain why. Well, there he was, Billybigrigger himself, bragging that he runs 65, rain, snow, shine....."this ain't nuthin'". I really don't care what these idiots do with their lives.....until it affects someone innocent and too often it does. I hope and pray it isn't one of ours.

Just to let you all know U dont run 65mph on the ICE and Snow only a total IDIOT would do that. The key to driving on 100% packed Ice and Snow is to keep your tail straight and go slow. If your trailer Tires are tracking in the snow vice the ice your good to go but stay off them brakes. and no suden moves and dont get on the throttle hard. easy easy easy and keep your wits about you. One last thing Night, I dont think you drive on the Ice as you got one of those real nice looker Trucks as a one of your buds thats now at US Express called Ur Type of truck. Any hows snide remarks dont get anyone no where. If your scared then say ur scared and just stay off the roads. If your going to do it then use some commone sense and dont second guess yourself. just go slow and again anyone driving 55 65 on them bad roads dont need to be driving out here at all. so for the rest of U I have run into drivers out here that been driving since early 60s and dont drive on the snow or ice. Well like my Dad said Best find another line of work if you cant do it. :)
Dont let the ICE get to ya ROFLMAO
Thanks again Diesel ya made my day now thats twice. YA BABY:)

Maybe it is me or maybe I need some Haggis and lutefisk, but....

I won't apologize when I say things like I wish people would grow up and be adults. I ran into too many macho idiot truck drivers and maybe, just maybe growing up with the old time truck drivers. The one thing that sticks in my mind and I think about everyday is what one trucker said to me in '78 - it is easy to drive a truck, the hard part is knowing what to do when and to know when you should be off the road because of the safety of other people. He got killed a year later when he stopped another truck from hitting a van full of kids.

I get a kick out of people who for some reason think that they can control things, that have all this experience driving a truck but in fact that they are, well you know what I am going to say,

You know that losing my truck isn't as important as making sure the people around me are safe.

We left the Richmond VA area Friday afternoon...Frezzing rain in W. Va abit, then KY, Ohio and I74 in Indiana and into Chicago for Saturday morning...and boy I could tell you a few things we seen...Oh wait...it was FedexCC C unit that flew by and then a P2 van and then a FedexCC van and then a TriState D unit....all doing 60-70 on them roads...guess they had a protect time? We were about 2 1/2 hours late and then to be told they weren't even open at our protect time. So you see it's not always the OTR trucks.

In weather like that "Protect Time" is meaningless...Our safety and the safety of others is a higher priority...

All is well and cold! You can bet as soon as I get up there the temp is gonna drop to -10F or there is going to be another massive ice storm or blizzard. Heck, when I got down to Florida the temp was 81F until Saturday and Sunday...(the days I wanted to work on my car). Not to mention I couldn't even go to Daytona Bike Week. That sucked! Now I'm stuck 10th out of Atlanta. guess that's what i get for being in Florida.

Typical Ohio weather! We've been lucky and runing around California, Arizona and New Mexico the last 4 weeks, but all good things must come to an end as we sit here in Columbus, Ohio!

Yep me's thinking that I'm just gonna wait for Panther to send me home. Not going to Ohio with the way gas prices are. this is getting ridiculous. Someone has got to stop this gas gouging by the oil companies. It sure ain't us (the little guys)
