Oh Laredo. How I hate you

I've been good. I've been staying out of Laredo. Concentrating on El Paso instead.

Well, it's January. You take what you can get. I sat in El Paso from early Saturday morning until Monday morning. I got a load going to Laredo and knew I needed the money.

I arrived here last night. Isn't it great having the new FJ? Remember when there was always a spot at the Pilot? Well, nothing doing. 10 PM and the only place to park was on Uniroyal drive. Every spot and made up spots taken at the FJ. They were parked on the street and parked in the middle turning lane. They were backed into the under construction TA. Every Idleaire spot at the Pilot was taken along with the normal spots. There were as many bobtails as there were full T/Ts in both truckstops.

I delivered at 8 and then returned to the FJ and got a great parking place. But I'm sitting here listening to Bill O'Reilly on XM and watching the frustrated drivers trying to find some place to shut down for the night.

And, based on the number of trucks here, I doubt I'll be gone from here anytime soon.

I made a big mistake. I listened to my dispatcher's promises of traffic leaving Laredo. Sure, if you want $.50 a mile for T/T.

Anybody else feel the same?

Anymore, I do my best to not go farther than Dallas. Any further into TX and i end up kicking my self in the rear for doing so. Still, I'll bet it's nicer weather than most places this time of year.

Yes Laredo is bad news for me. I've been stuck in Laredo for up to six days....I'm in a van though I doubt its that bad for straight trucks and tractors.

The good news is, there is freight coming out of there. Hopefully everyone gets out quickly.

I think it all depends on how much money you are willing to move that freight for.

I'm still here on Wednesday night. No word from the homefront that there are any opportunities yet.

All depends on how much your home team wants you out. I saw a couple today from the area, but ya gotta be quick... like Perfection, that crazy pop-up game from Hasbro. :p

Laredo-Alabama and Abeline to Tennessee... both straight truck loads, but worth it for a t/t to get out IMO. Apparently you didn't get offered either. But I hope dispatch at least tried for you.

I don't think I'd like Laredo even if they could get me back from there like they claim they can. The place just doesn't have a friendly feel .. if you know what I mean. Man I hate that place.

I love going there. Not just because there's nothing but long loads coming out. I love driving to Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Pharr. Those back roads are nice to drive on once in awhile. Just nice to not be in the same-ol.

I know what you're talking about being not welcome. The two places there I've found very welcome were the Flying J and the Family Garden Inn.

I'd never turn down a load to Laredo and this time of year especially. Still, in the summer when it's hot enough to melt the glasses off your face it does detract a little bit. I just don't like the place. There are several places I really don't like but a load is a load so I'll go there. I'll just whine when I get there. So if you're in Laredo and you hear bleating from the Sprinter next to you ... It's me.
