This question is for all you with portable toilets.

What is the average amount of effluent (black water) per person per day? Or, how often do you have to empty your 5 gallon toilet cartridge?

I'm asking because I have found a reasonably priced shower pan/throne mount with an integrated black tank (5 or 6 gal) and a 23'x32-37" footprint, and I'm trying to get an idea of service intervals.

The only estimates I've found on the 'net was from a boating site that said 7 gal/person/day (I think that is black and gray water).

True, that is a lot of p... err... effluent, I'm guessing that number was including showers, or a high GPF toilet. I'm guessing that a 5 gallon tank would be plenty large enough.

Mine holds 6 gallons when really full, I think it is a 7 gallon tank.

It will be emptied tomorrow because I have 3 gallons in it now (selling tickets to that event if anyone is interested) and it has been a week since the last time.

The biggest issue I have is venting it when it gets more than 3 gallons in it. If you want details I can post them but they are not pretty.

Ok, I was hoping for 1 week service intervals and it sounds doable.

Here is the pan I'm looking at using for a possible retrofit (this one has an 8 gallon tank):
get_file.php

get_file.php

They're $115 or $159 depending on the size.

Looks like a dcent product. Interested how youd contain the
shower water. Id give a small toe for a shower in my sleeper.

Keep up with install pics if you end up installing it. Thx

On the black water, we have a 7 gal for the toilet. We get approx 5 days (2 ppl) of regular use. The system uses a high pressure elec. flush. This allows effective flushing without using much water. On the gray water, we have a 45 gal tank with a pump for quick emptying. Our fresh water is a total of 60 gal with a marine grade hot water tank of 10 gal. This makes for long at home style showers. The shower unit upright is a single piece seamless fitted on a 4" high floor pan. The vent system(MAX-AIR) allows for discrete bathroom moments without affecting the rest of the sleeper...makes life on the road a picnic.:)

Prefect. I was thinking 40-60 for both fresh and gray. Sounds like my numbers are right inline with "real-world" examples.
