We should have worried less about communists and more about dam fool liberal idiots in the 50's. They were and are the biggest problem to our security and sovereignty. TR's big stick should never have been set aside. From WW2 onward we should have been so feared nobody would consider crossing us and we should have responded so rapidly and so intensely if anyone did that any further notion of same would vanish. The he!! with world respect and opinion. We know none of them respect us and only have an opinion for as long as we buy one. We should have just gone with fear. It's cheaper and works better.

No need for troops so casualties are nil...

at any given time the US as close to 30-35,000 american troops in the korean DMV commonly known as the area in the 38th parallel. Any US miliatary expert, and commander that as spent time there or troops that are there now or in the past understand that they are in what is considered a "suicide" assignment....Kim can take that area out and kill everyone there in a heart beat. SK keeps about 500,000 troops in that area, while NK normally has over 1 million troops in that area...along with armament to level the area.

Yes we can destroy NK in a blink of an eye, but don't think for a minute they would be a pushover with SK, Japan....the NK army is on the the top 5 in numbers in the world and are very well armed...why do you think they are a "arms dealing country!?!?" As Latut said, we should simply take out the launching pads and armament locations after telling the world we are going to do it... but do it as we are annonucing it....

As I said before china is well aware of what kim does, and they are not going to do much of anything and whatever russia does will be more to appease the UN and it won't amount to anything..... Kim is going to play this out as he knows he can....he may very well have the boat full of TP, just to embarrass the rest of the world and give him a reason to fire off a few missles that will hit and destory something, just to show thw world, he doesn't give a dang what America or barry or hiliary or the UN thinks.....

No war has ever been won without putting troops on the ground. I am NOT in favor of nuking them. I also don't CARE what the press, the UN OR the world thinks. The press ain't got a clue, the UN is more corrupt than a Chicago Democrat and the world is living in outer space. I AM concerned about OUR security and the security of our allies in the region. THAT is Obama's primary job, he is NOT doing it. This threat will NOT be stopped by talking. As to the ship, if they don't let us board it, sink it!!!

I've heard they still find WW2 mines in the oceans every now and then. It would be a shame if that ship hit one and went down.

Unfortunately... no one cares what the US thinks....

As the world develops and more countries are getting more technology advanced....the US is going to be left behind...already some countries make deals without the US dollars....The US will be reduced to trading with itself...if the greater then thou attitude doesn't change.

They will when they are attacked and/or enslaved by these nut cases. Just remember what doing nothing did in the late 1930's. OVM, was it not you that said that your uncles were not happy with the U.S. for not getting involved in WWII sooner than we did? Are we to repeat that same mistake? Rmember what Chamberlin did in England, did THAT work then? Why do you think it will work now? Russia, China, North Korea, Iran and now several countries in South America are going down the path to the dark side. Just wait and see how humainly Iran handles these protests in the next few days. Maybe as good as China handles Tibet? OH, maybe as good as the North Koreans are treated. MMMM, think Russia is starting up new Gulags? More mass murders? I like our attitude. It is the correct one. Stop this garbage and go home, before it is too late.

OVM,

If that was the case then they wouldn't care what we do with our money. we could pull our of NATO, the UN, Care and the IMF and see who will care.

Can you imagine anyone in N. Korea (or anywhere else) even thinking about shooting missiles toward Hawaii when Reagan was president? I can hear him now telling them "Go ahead - make my day!"

For all that you guys think of the above ..would it matter if the US pulled out?

The fact is NK can't even touch Hawaii...so why get bent out of shape? I would agree...take out his nuke plant and luanch pads and see what he does next....response and counter response...we have that luxury, he does not...

US prepares for N.Korea missile launch on Hawaii
by Dan De Luce Dan De Luce – Thu Jun 18, 9:50 pm ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US military has moved additional defenses to Hawaii in case North Korea launches a missile towards the Pacific island chain, Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said.

"We do have some concerns if they were to launch a mis
sile ... in the direction of Hawaii," Gates told a news conference on Thursday.

Gates said he had approved the deployment of THAAD missile defense weaponry to the US state and radar "to provide support" in case of a possible North Korean launch.

And he said that ground-based defenses in Alaska were also at the ready.
"I would just say I think we are in a good position should it become necessary to protect American territory," he said.

The Theatre High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weaponry, coupled with the radar system, are designed to shoot down ballistic missiles.
US and South Korean officials have said North Korea might be readying another ballistic missile test after three previous launches in 1998, 2006 and this year.

Pyongyang said its latest April 5 launch put a satellite into orbit, while the United States and its allies labeled it a disguised test of a Taepodong-2 missile theoretically capable of reaching Alaska.
But North Korea has yet to demonstrate it has the ability to build a nuclear warhead that could be fitted onto the tip of one of its ballistic missiles.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have mounted after Pyongyang carried out its second nuclear test last month.

US media reported on Thursday that the US military was tracking a flagged North Korean ship suspected of ferrying banned weapons cargo in violation of a UN Security Council resolution adopted last week.

The ship, the Kang Nam, departed a port in North Korea on Wednesday and appears to be heading toward Singapore, according to media reports.
The latest UN financial and shipping sanctions are designed to choke off revenue and disrupt transfers of arms and nuclear technology in and out of North Korea.

The measures do not authorize military force to board North Korean ships, but allow for the US Navy and its allies to ask to inspect North Korean vessels and ships flagged from other countries suspected of carrying banned cargo.

"We intend to vigorously enforce the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1874," said Admiral Mike Mullen, the top US military officer, at a joint news conference with Gates.

Mullen sidestepped a question as to whether the military was tracking the North Korean vessel.

Analysts say North Korea could get around the shipping measures by transporting banned cargo by air and exploiting provisions that prohibit the use of military force.

However, experts say the financial sanctions could prove more effective.
On Saturday, the North vowed to build more atomic bombs and start enriching uranium for a new nuclear weapons program, in response to the UN sanctions.

The Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun meanwhile reported that Tokyo's defense ministry believes that North Korea might now be planning to launch a two-stage or three-stage Taepodong-2 missile towards either Japan's Okinawa island, Guam or Hawaii.

But the ministry said launches toward Okinawa or Guam were "extremely unlikely" because the first-stage booster could drop into waters off China, agitating Beijing, or hit western Japanese territory, the report said.
If the missile were fired in the direction of Hawaii, the booster could drop in the Sea of Japan (East Sea) well before the missile's remaining part flies over northern Japan and towards North America.

In Washington, a State Department official said the US administration was exploring five-way talks with China, Russia, Japan and South Korea to put pressure on North Korea to change tack on its nuclear and missile programs.
The idea was raised when President Barack Obama hosted talks at the White House Tuesday with South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak, a senior official told reporters on the condition of anonymity.

and sense he did it in 1993, id bet he has the ability to do it now with no problem at all, other then our defenses, and those are not foolproof....

Kim Jong-IL is a short-timer on Planet Earth.... be it natural or unnatural causes. Moammar Qaddaffi was effectively silenced. Now it's Kim's turn to dance.

Yes it would matter, look at how much money we give to these places.

Well I don't really care about Hawaii, so I am not concern - they want to leave the US, even their congressional group has mentioned it, so leave.

The real issue here people is not about some little guy in a brown suit, it is all about deflection and the media in this country. While this is going on and so many people are being held hostage with this issue (hawaii? What's next Hollywood?), our congress is going to try to push through the health care "reforms" that grew from 450 pages to 850 pages and we will all get screwed.

All of these problems can hurt us and bad. Congress is sticking it to us on this health care thing and not having a commander in chief might kill us. That might be Barry's plan, get several million of us killed to cut down on health care costs. It would cut down on green house gases as well.

Thing is this missile will take a while to get to Hawaii...it will be tracked IF it looks to be getting too close to American waters it can be and should be destroyed. It is one solo missile.

And then we have a real reason to take out his nuke program and missile launch pads.

Hey OVM, we already have a good reason to hit those targets. They are a threat to our allies in the region as well as to us. The more we allow their development the more of a threat they become. It can reach a point when it will be too late. That is, unless it already has.

Anytme Wimpy007, do you recognize it? Very few would. Only the "The Best of the Best" were ever able to to wear that crest. Give me a shout!!!!
