Hey all
Not sure if this is the right place for an intro or not. I'll take a chance and throw it out here anyway.
New to the forum, not new to the trucking industry. I've been in and around trucks forever, or maybe it just seems like forever. Truth be known, I wouldn't change any of it. My first million miles came and went a few decades ago. I'm currently overseas and looking into the possibility of expediting when I return to the states. I've never tried this part of the industry. I am retired military and a former O/O. I now enjoy a couple of old trucks at home as a hobby. I have a clean CDL A with all endorsements. Any information that you all want to share is great about this business. I'll keep reading the forums and see what is out there. I'm looking at buying another truck or maybe driving one for someone else if the deal is right. Don't be afraid to make suggestions or comments to me.
Be safe out there and I'll catch you down the road.

First off, welcome to EO.Expediting is just another form of specialized trucking. It's nothing like regular freight. In the beginning it was meant to put the right size truck with the right size load,so the customer could get their freight off and on the dock, with out paying for a full tractor trailer, at an exclusive use rate. For the straight trucks and vans,it's still pretty much the same way, although over the years the rates have changed drastically.Tractor trailers now might be loaded with expedite loads or regular truck loads just to keep them busy.
To get into expediting, there are many things you need to read about, and see if this is actually for you.For some one that wants to run, lets say 500 miles everyday of the week, this might not be what your looking for.Expedite is a hurry up and wait type of work, our loads aren't given to our carriers in advance, they are last minuet decisions. They are Loads that were suppose to be picked up,but weren't ready, and now need to be somewhere in the morning, and it's late in the afternoon. You have way to many carriers after the same freight, and too many trucks working for these same carriers. If you don't mind sitting around day after day,if you have a nest egg to fall back on,when times are slow, this might work out for you. What I painted might seem harsh,if you can deal with the bad, then you will love the good

Buy a semi truck, lease on to a small carrier without electronic logs if you plan on running single. If you get a co driver and run team the big carriers can keep you pretty busy it seems. Just my .02. Military guys seem to do very well in the biz and are among the best operators, must be a disipline thing because running a business like this you will need it! Dont fool yourself, its a cut throat business when your an owner op. Good Luck!
