Newbies at Landstar?

Hi All!

Just curious, has Landstar changed their policy regarding only taking
on experienced expediters?
The reason I'm wondering is, since they are co-sponsoring the expediter workshops advertised here on EO, I have to assume they must be willing to, or are they just there to court those already leased on somewhere else?

I know that the workshops are open to experienced expediters as well as the potentials, but judging from what I have read about the first workshop it seems it is geared towards the newbie, no?

My wife and I are in our second year with Landstar and we are very happy with the company. We get good miles, the pay is OK and they never give us a hassle if we decide to go home for a few days.

We had several years of driving experience when we went to Landstar but only about five months in expediting. I think their requirement is that you must be an experienced driver, not necessarily an experienced expediter. Check with one of their recruiters and they can give you a complete answer.

Hope everything works out well for you. Good luck. :) :) :)

I posed your question to Jeff Garra, Landstar Express America recruiter. He says,(and I'm paraphrasing) "While we still have the 6-month experience requirement, we're taking the long view and presenting information about expediting in general at the Workshops about expediting. It's not a recruiting seminar per se."

"Also, if a person becomes involved in expediting and after a year or two of experience wants to take a look at Landstar, then that's all to the good."

I talked to them a few weeks ago and they still have the 6 month requirement. I suspect they are there planting seeds.

It is my understanding that they have a year requirement when you first sign on (don't recall what it is) but once you have a truck rolling with them, they will not force you to remove it as it gets older, as some companies do.
