Your lease agreement with the carrier probably discusses an escrow account you are required to maintain and the manner by which the carrier gets the monies into your account. I suspect it's a fixed amount that has come to about half your weekly pay for the two weeks your check has been affected.

To answer your question, it's common for the expedite carriers to keep an escrow account. It will be returned to you after the carrier deducts any money you might owe when you leave. These deductions could include payment for non-return of the carrier's equipment, settlement of any cargo claims pending, or liabilities for pending accident claims.

I'm an agent for EGL and not leased on the them so things are a little different but I just got paid for the week starting January 11, 2006. They are a month behind on paying their agents but after you start getting paid it comes like clock work. As far as holding money, I'n not sure how that works with trucks leased onto them but they are so detailed about how they operate I would bet a years salary that it is spelled out in detail in your lease.

Over all I think they are a fine company to work with but you must learn to work their system like any other company.

they hold 2 weeks back, and when you start they take one day at a time until they have 2 weeks, one of reasons for this they had people quit and owe a large sum of money and ran off and stuck egl with the bill, like the ins, signs on the unit , nextel bill etc and jan, feb , march , are the slow months and should pick up in april i hope , egl is like all the fedex companies rolled up in one , i do p/d , line haul, expedite loads , and same run every day , pick up at the airport del to airport etc hope this helps abit

another thing is i do not have a lease with anybody, i talked with the dispatch guy (bill) for thre weeks before i bought the van.
i was not told that thay would take two weeks pay and hold it. thay took the first week and then three weeks later thay take another week.

i can understand them holding money if i was using their equipment but i have nothing of theirs... randy ps. expedited freight only.

HI
Im still confused.Sorry.When you say they hold back your pay do you mean you hauled your first load on 01/01/06 and you normally would of been paid on 01/07/06 but instead you were paid for those loads on 01/14/06.Also how much are we talking here.Don't want actuall figures just a general estimate.I only ask this because of a very unusual deal I got caught up in years ago.Where I never got paid for the first week untill OOIDA stepped in.The owner of the company went to prison.

thay were supposed to hold me back two weeks pay (i was never told this nor did i ask) i thought it was like with my dump trucks (you just turn in a bill and get paid) this job is like being an employee. insted of them taking the two weeks right off the start thay took half of my pay four times, it comes to about 2000.00 i did not like this at all but its out of my control.

my neightbor drives for them thats how i got started, i bought the van got the insurance and started taking loads.
i take every load that comes my way. my neightbor is just a driver he does not own the van(i did not know this at the time i started)

now that i have been running for about two months now i get the idea of the job, but if it does not pick up i will not stay with it.
i will put the dump truck back on the road this spring. with the income the van makes now it will not pay to stay with it... if i had not had some money i would have went broke the first month. randy
