New to the forum and expediting!

Hey All,

I guess the first thing to do is list what I can/have done. I drove TT both OTR and regional from Aug. 2000-Dec.2007 all of which was as a company driver. I got out of that because of the hassles and aggravation. It seems that I have the wanderlust in my blood though so I am looking at the smaller vehicles because of the parking situation and regulations difference. I am new to EO and expediting in general. I already posted once in the general forum but was told this would be a better place.

My original questions were about how to go about getting started with a cargo van/sprinter or maybe a straight truck.

After reading quite a bit of information on this site and doing some contemplation I am thinking more along the lines of getting a sprinter or straight truck and getting my own authority.

The only problem I am having is what is the registration requirements for these types of vehicles? Is it similar to TT or completely different? Are there load boards for these smaller vehicles so those that are completely independent can find loads?

Any thoughts or info on my original questions or the revised questions are appreciated.

George

I think what was meant is you need to read and read and read in this forum not repost in this forum!

As you read through you will notice that there is not much encouragement to drive a van much less as a team that is not related.

Talk to recruiters at the different companies and take lots and lots of notes. Ask a lot of specific questions in this forum and you should get many different points of views.

The first suggestion though is to take the time to read and get as well informed as you possible can and then start asking questions.

George: while you may be that one in a million who can absorb a lot of new information in a hurry, most of us aren't, and what you're proposing [learning about both expediting and finding your own loads] is a LOT of info to soak in.
Best advice is to at least learn the business of being an O/O before adding the duties of a carrier to your plate - it can be overwhelming trying to be both at the same time.
